[SOLVED] windows 7 x64 update failed error code 643 and 80073712

Thank you. I've reviewed all the logs and I still believe the reason for the failure is that it is detecting another or newer version of .NET. Very odd. But I was able to obtain some more information (specifically the GUID) that it thinks is installed.

In the following log file I found the following: Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Client Profile Setup_20150602_003447229-MSI_netfx_Core_x64.msi.txt
Code:
Action start 0:34:49: FindRelatedProducts.
MSI (s) (C4:EC) [00:34:49:659]: PROPERTY CHANGE: Adding NEWERVERSIONDETECTED property. Its value is '{[COLOR=#ff0000][B]26784146-6E05-3FF9-9335-786C7C0FB5BE[/B][/COLOR]}'.
MSI (s) (C4:EC) [00:34:49:660]: Doing action: CA_BlockOlderVersionInstall
MSI (s) (C4:EC) [00:34:49:660]: Note: 1: 2205 2: 3: ActionText
Action ended 0:34:49: FindRelatedProducts. Return value 1.
Action start 0:34:49: CA_BlockOlderVersionInstall.
MSI (s) (C4:EC) [00:34:49:662]: Product: Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Client Profile -- A later version of Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Client Profile is already installed.

As a result I would like you to do the following.

FRST Registry Search
1. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
2. Run FRST64 by Right-Clicking on the file and choosing Run as administrator.
3. Copy and paste 26784146-6E05-3FF9-9335-786C7C0FB5BE into the Search box and click the Search Registry button.

4. When the scan is complete a notepad window will open with the results. Please copy and paste the contents in your next reply. If for some reason notepad doesn't open the file should be
saved on your desktop named Search.txt.

Interesting about showing in CCleaner and not in Add/Remove programs. Maybe we'll use an uninstaller like Revo. Before we do, try this.

1. Click your start button and type cmd.
2. Right-click on cmd.exe that comes up and select Run as administrator.
3. Once the command-prompt is open please copy and paste the following and hit enter.
MsiExec.exe /X{26784146-6E05-3FF9-9335-786C7C0FB5BE}

Let me know what it says.

Go ahead and answer Yes to uninstall. Let me know if any errors happen. If it uninstalls successfully then go ahead and try the update you were attempting again.

uninstalled fine, gone from ccleaner, but update still fails

We got further as suspected. It didn't find any other versions.

Code:
Action start 21:11:27: FindRelatedProducts.
MSI (s) (B0:1C) [21:11:27:317]: Skipping action: CA_BlockOlderVersionInstall ([B]condition is false[/B])

Now we see the following.
Code:
06/02/15 21:11:51 DDSet_Error: Failure creating interface IAssemblyCache
06/02/15 21:11:51 DDSet_Error: CreateAssemblyCache() returned -2147024703
06/02/15 21:11:51 DDSet_Error: Error occurred while initializing fusion.
MSI (s) (B0!E8) [21:11:51:602]: Product: Microsoft .NET Framework 4 Client Profile -- Error 25003. Error occurred while initializing fusion.

Can you try renaming the following two files? Simply rename them so that it ends in .old instead of .dll.

C:\Windows\System32\msvcr100_clr0400.dll
C:\Windows\SysWOW64\msvcr100_clr0400.dll

Once you do that, try the install again. If you don't know how to rename the files or don't feel comfortable doing it, let me know and I can automate for you. Thanks.

Can you provide an example of one of them? It's best to isolate it to just one particular update. What is the KB number associated with just one of them that you are having an issue with?

Thanks.
