Windows 7 x64 Updates KB4467107 and KB4467240 failed - both error codes : 80073712

Hi Midcareer

Firstly, apologies for the delay. I unfortunately had to take an enforced break.

As you have reimaged the drive I would like to run a check on the drive health again first.

Please do the following

Let's start by checking disk health and SMART status

GSmartControl

Follow the instructions below to test your hard drive health with GSmartControl:

  • Download GSmartControl and save it on your Desktop;
  • Extract the content of the GSmartControl .zip archive and execute gsmartcontrol.exe; To extract you can right-click your mouse on the GSmartControl.zip file and select Extract.
  • Identify your drive in the list, and double-click on it to bring up it's window (usually you'll find your drive by it's size or it's brand name);
  • Go in the Perform Tests tab, then select Extended Self-test in the Test type drop-down list and click on Execute (this test can take a few hours to complete);
  • Once the test is over, the results will be displayed at the bottom of the window. Please copy and paste these results in your next reply;
  • Also, go in the Attributes tab and if you have any entries highlighted in red or pink, copy and paste their name in your next reply (or take a screenshot of the GSmartControl window and attach it in your next reply);

Hi bruce1270

I've been offline for a few days, hence my delayed reply.

Extended self-test took 3hrs 32mins : "Completed without error"

Copy of results :

"Test #","Type","Status","% Completed","Lifetime hours","LBA of the first error"
1,"Extended offline","Completed without error","100%","13001","-"

NIL "Attributes" showing either "Red" or "Pink"

Thanks

Hi bruce1270

If you recall, I commenced this thread on November 19, 2018, and I first encountered the reboot problem on/around December 25, 2018 (see Post #44). We were only able to 'move forward' again, in terms of trying to fix the WU issues, on January 29, 2019 when I managed to reboot into an image I had dated October 17, 2018 (see Post #56).

Since the recent repeat of a reboot failure (see Post#200), and during your recent "absence" and mine, I started to think about possibly trying to revert to an image from an earlier date than that I reverted to in Post # 56 (ie an image dated earlier than October 17, 2018). As a result, on May 25, 2018, I tried reverting to an image dated September 8, 2018 and this image booted successfully.

Much more importantly and as far as I can see at the moment, this September 8, 2018 image does NOT appear to have any problems with WU. Indeed, I have now been able to successfully download and install ALL new Updates offered to me to date. These updates currently consist of the following KB's :

44999406, 4481252, 890830, 4499164, 4474419, 4490628, 4493132, 4505050 and 4499178

In order to "test" WU further, I am minded to await the June 'batch' of new Updates, and if these all successfully download and install, then thank you for all your patience and help etc and proceed to ask that you close this thread.

Alternatively, if you have any suggested TESTS that I could implement and that would more conclusively evidence that my WU issues no longer exist, then I would be glad to carry them out. Please let me know.

Thank You

Hi Midcareer

Thanks for the latest information and good to hear the WU seem to be installing.

The June monthly roll up KB4503292 is now available. Please try to install this update through windows update and let us know if successful.

Hi bruce1270

KB4503292 installed and rebooted successfully. Does that seem conclusive, for now....?

Hi Midcareer

Great news that your updates appear to be now installing. :-)

If your happy there are no remaining issues then we can close the thread.

Thanks for sticking with the topic and pleased that your issue appears to be resolved.

Regards
Bruce
