There is no point keep running SFC, if it keeps asking for a reboot it means the first time it ran it failed to fix things and so it will keep on failing.

When did you last run a DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Please try that and post a new CBS logfile.

Hello,

I made a mistake. Please download and check CBS.zip again. I forgot to put the new version into the download folder.

Did you run DISM before uploading the new CBS log as instructed in post #22?

I reposted the downloadlink to replace my posting #21. Sorry for the confusion.

Meanwhile I've prepared a new file you asked for in #22.

dism outputs this

Fehler: 3017

Simple translation

Error: 3017 - Process was not successful. A systemreboot is nessessary to rollback the changes.

I didn't reboot yet. I'm waiting for your instructions.

The problem is that every time you run SFC /scannow the system gets into a reboot loop. Please do not run this until you are instructed to do so again.

Please check in your C:\Windows\WinSxS folder and see if you have a pending.xml file there.

Hello Ferdi,

Sorry for the long wait for a response. This is just to inform you I have been away but am looking into the problem again. There are some complex file issues to sort out so I will be working on these over the next few days.

Hello,

no problem. It's your spare time and I'm glad and happy that you spend *your* lifetime on *my* problem.

Cheers

Hello Ferdi,

I've now created a new fix which should correct the file hash mis-matches.

This fix may well require that you perform a reboot after completing the fix so wait until you know you can reboot before trying it.

Do not take any further steps until I have seen the contents of the SFCFix.txt file and can give you any further instructions.

WARNING! The following fix is specific to the user's system in this thread only. No one else should follow these instructions, as it could damage your system.
  • Download the attachment FastFerdi5.zip and save it on your desktop.
  • Make sure the SFCFix.exe executable file is on your desktop
  • Save any work you have open, and close all programs.
  • Drag the FastFerdi5.zip file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it.
  • SFCFix will launch, let it complete.
  • Once done, a file will appear on your desktop, called SFCFix.txt.
  • Open the file, then copy and paste its content into your next reply.

Let's see what happens now when you open an Admin Command Prompt and execute the command sfc /scannow

Hello,

same output again. Some files could be repaired, some not and a reboot is nessessary.

I want to mention that for other reasons the server will be rebooted automatically every night at 00:01:00. So happend last night.

Cheers

Looking into the log indicates we have made some progress but now the error is different and indicates that the COMPONENTS hive may need some work on it. You provided a copy early on in this thread but it did not look right to me - it was much too small.

Retrieve Components Hive
1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
2. Please copy this file to your desktop.
3. Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
4. The file may be too large to upload here, if so, please upload to OneDrive or Dropbox and just provide the link in your next post.

That's better! I will work on this over the next day or so.

Hello Ferdi,

I have made some changes to the components hive which should fix the problems of your system trying to decompress files when it didn't need to.

Step#1 - Replace Manually
1. Download COMPONENTS2.ZIP and save to your desktop.
2. Right-click on it and select Extract all.... Make sure the "Show extracted files when complete" is checked and click Extract.
3. Now we have the COMPONENTS file that we will be using to replace your current one.
4. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\config
5. Right-click on the current COMPONENTS file and select rename. Rename it to COMPONENTS.bad
Note: If you get an error that the file is in use, reboot your computer and then try again.
6. Take the file from the Components2 folder on your desktop and paste it into C:\Windows\System32\config

Step#2 - Repeat SFC /scannow and post the CBS.log

There will be more work to do after this but hopefully there will be fewer errors.

Hello,

all steps are done.

Sfc demands again a reboot. This will be done automatically after midnight. I can't stop it.

I found a pending.xml this time. Maybe it's interessting.

Cheers
Ferdi
