Windows Update Error code 490 - Can't install Service Pack 1 for Windows 7 64 bit

Thank you. Now I need a fresh copy of your COMPONENTS hive. Please do the following. Make sure you delete any existing zip files you may have of the components file so you don't confused them and send an old one. It needs to be current.

Retrieve Components Hive
1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
2. Please copy this file to your desktop.
Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
3. Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
4. The file will likely be too large to upload here so please upload to SendSpace and just provide the link here.

Thanks. Please do the following.

Step#1 - SFCFix Script

The logs actually look very clean. Please do the following.

1. Attempt to install SP1 again.
2. If it fails, please send the following three logs
C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log
C:\Windows\Inf\setupapi.dev.log
C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

Thank you. Instead of installing SP1 through Windows Update, I would like you to download the full offline installer from the following link. Once you have downloaded it, go ahead and attempt to install from the downloaded location.

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5842

If it fails, please send me the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

Thank you.

Note: You will want to download the one that says windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe

The thing is I was running it from this file the whole time since it failed on Windows Update. Tried it again through Windows Update since I didn't run it through it for a while and got a fresh CBS log.

Thanks for letting me know. We'll continue to use the offline installer then. Thanks. Please do the following.

Please reset Windows Update by running the fixit at the following link. If there is an aggressive mode, please select that when running it.
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/971058

Then go ahead and try installing SP1 again. If it fails please send me the following logs.
C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log
C:\Windows\Inf\setupapi* (so basically any log files that begin with setupapi in this directory)
C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

Hello again after a 3 month break. Sorry for not replying but I simply gave up on that and now the lack of SP1 on my system is causing some games to refuse to work so I want to get this fixed. I tried to install the SP1, it failed again. I used the SURT tool as well. SFC says it found no errors, but CBS.log does show a few of them. You didn't ask me to attach the CheckSUR and CheckSUR.persist but I'll do it anyway since they might help in some way. I think the problem might be connected to the lack of rdpbus.sys and rdpbus.inf in the amd64_rdpbus.inf_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7600.16385_none_151c5661f0c231aa folder in winsxs but I'm not sure so I'm not gonna mess with it myself. I came to that conclusion because the CheckSUR logs says it was unable to fix that problem since these files were missing. I have no idea if this is useful or no but thought that writing it won't hurt and might come in handy somehow. Once again, sorry for not replying and if you've abandoned this thread already then I completely understand. I zipped the 7 files into one since on sysnative you can only attach 5.

Hi and welcome back. We'll replace your payload files to start. Please do the following.

Step#2 - System Update Readiness Tool (SUR)
1. Download and run the following file.
2. When it asks you if you wish to install, please answer yes. Note: It could take 15 minutes or more to run. Please don't cancel.
3. You will get an Installation Complete screen when it's done running.
4. Please attach the log from the following location. C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log
Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.

Items for your next post
1. SFCFix.txt
2. CheckSUR.log

I am in shock. The Service Pack installed properly after running the SURT. I think it's all done now. Thank you so much, you fixed my pc problems, it actually means a lot since it was bugging me for such a long time. Thank you! If there is anything else that needs fixing in the registry then I can still attach the logs but I think that's it.
