[SOLVED] Windows Update Fails 80080005

OK, now let's toggle the setting again.

Open Windows Update
click on Change Settings
select 'Never check for updates' in the dropdown - click OK
Exit Windows Update
now go back to Windows Update
Click on Change Settings
Select 'Install Updates Automatically'
Click OK
now try manually checking for updates
 
Ok done.

Similar results as previously, got 8024402C, 80080005, then 8024402C a few more times.

FRST Fix
NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system
1. Download attached file and save it to the Desktop.
Note. It's important that both files, FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work (in this case...the desktop).
2. Run FRST64 by Right-Clicking on the file and choosing Run as administrator.
3. Press the Fix button just once and wait. If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
4. When finished FRST64 will generate a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please post the contents of it in your reply.
 

Attachments

There's no need to delete these fixes since there is no personal info in them. Any logs that have personal info will be deleted however.

Can you attempt to do Windows Updates again? Let me know how it goes.

That seems to have done it, installed over 100 updates, with a few reboots.

So what do you think caused the problems?

Excellent news. All of the errors you were getting were pointing to networking issues. So we eliminated all your security/firewall software as this is usually the cause. When that didn't work I decided to reset your networking stack. Don't forget to re-install your preferred Antivirus.
