Which KB are you trying to download?

I have been trying to download the ones in the "solution" that you sent. What I just did is to download each of them to another computer and copy the downloads to a flash drive, I the tried to install( from the flash drive) each kb on to the Vista machine. The only ones applicable were 3168 and 3177. They installed successfully and the machine was restarted, I am now checking for updates, I started at 2:16. I have not tried to rerun SURT. I will let you know how windows update goes; I have to go run a few errands. Hopefully it will have found something by the time I return.

I just got back; I don't know when it happened, but Windows update reports 17 important updates and 2 optional ones. I am goiung to install the important ones and the optional ones I want. When I am done, what should I do ? run SURT?

Install all the updates, then run SURT yes.

I started SURT at 7:24 this AM. It just finished. The log is below

Appears to me that everything looks good. Any idea about the Active x problems on individual kb downloads?

Are you using the Microsoft Download Center, or Windows Update Catalog to download the KBs? Windows Update Catalog's website uses ActiveX, Microsoft Download Center doesn't.

The article you referred me to about slow windows update uses Download Center. Today, I used the link in your suggestion reference to try to download kb3168965. When I click download, I do not get a run or save option. I will have problems in the future. Who /what forum can you refer me to about this problem?

Thanks for all your help on this one.

Are you able to download the updates in another web browser, like Google Chrome?

Also, Sysnative is the only forum that I know of which offers Windows Update expertise.

Downloads in Google Chrome starts automatically. Let's try something.

Temp File Cleaner (TFC)
  • Download Temp File Cleaner (TFC) and move it to your Desktop;
  • Right-click on TFC.exe and select

    Run as Administrator (for Windows Vista, 7, 8, 8.1 and 10 users);
  • Simply click on Start to launch the clean-up and wait until it completes;

  • Depending on which processes are running, all your programs will be closed and explorer.exe (your Windows shell) will be killed, it will however be relaunched shortly after so do not panic;
  • There's no log to give for this tool;

cleaned out lots of temp and tmp files; but still no run or save box when trying to download from download center. I did get a run or save for the temp file cleaner

I am reluctant to reset all tose settings. By the way, when I click on the link you provide I get a microsoft screen " What may we help you with/" and a box to fill in. this is not what you intended,right?
