[SOLVED] WMI Provider Host APPCRASH

Sorry for the delay it has been a rough week and I am just starting to feel better. I have a lot of catching up to do and will get with you soon. Although I am really not sure what to think since they come and go. Let me do some research and I will get back to you.

Looks like "Dead Hunter" has been keeping you pretty busy :smile9:
This WMI thing seems pretty screwy, there were no crashes for 3 days and then (at bootup) there were 2/3 crashes for 6 days straight and none today.
Take your time to get to this one as it doesn't seem like an emergency, just an annoyance and puzzle. Thanks for sticking with me on this thing.

A new development, the last few days when booting up my W7 Pro computer, it now goes through most of the bootup and then I get a message window saying that "WMI has failed to start, would I like to proceed anyway" and I click yes and it finishes booting up.
The 1st time it happened, it mentioned "Samsung Magician" so I checked that and it needed an update so I updated it. Now there is no mention of "Samsung Magician" in the message window, it just says that WMI failed to start.
I went to Services (Local) and Windows Management Instrumentation is set to "Automatic".

On the Windows 7 computer. Please start a new post so it is not confused with this one and is a different computer.

Ok
Thanks for putting in so much time with me on chasing the W10 WMI Provider Host crashes. Evidently it is unsolvable so I guess I will live with it.
Hope you are feeling better and have a great day.

You are welcome. Yeah it is more of annoyance than anything. Did 1803 install okay? Did you start a new post for the Win 7 machine? I don't see anything.

Yes 1803 seemed to install ok. So far all seems well but it didn't get rid of the WMI crash. I noticed in the Reliability Monitor that WMI crashed on the reboot to the new 1803 (judging from the time stamp). I guess I need to go through all the settings to make sure that none of my options have changed from the settings I chose on 1709.
Since I built a fast computer it didn't take all that long for the upgrade. :smile9:
As to the W7 machine, no I haven't started a new post on that yet. It seems to be tied to Samsung Magician since the pop up window specifically states "Samsung Magician" in the header for the error message. I googled it and evidently this has happened to many others but I saw no fixes for it. Not sure if it's worth starting a new thread for since it's another "out of the blue" annoyance, do you think it's worth pursuing? For some unknown reason it just started happening last week and I have had Magician on there since March 2017.
The bad part is that it won't allow connecting to the internet until the yes button is clicked.

The other night I noticed a couple of dmp files when I ran CCleaner, one was over a GB and the other one was in the MB's. I deleted them.
Today I looked at Reliability Monitor and noticed 2 Windows Kernel errors with a time stamp that would put it at about the time I booted up in the morning each time.
Can you decipher these or is this something else to just ignore?

I would ignore these. They are useful sometimes if you are having particular issues with certain programs. These are created when the system may hang up to help with debugging if needed.

I think I have figured out why I was getting all those WMI crashes at bootup on this W10 computer. I think that all of the WMI problems are Samsung Magician related.
In my W7 thread I deleted Magician and the errors went away. On my W10 machine I still have Magician but stopped it from running at Startup. The WMI crashes stopped and today I manually ran Magician and it immediately threw the WMI stops in Reliability Monitor (I can tell from the time stamp when WMI stopped).

I emailed Samsung tech support about the Magician problem last week but have not heard from them yet, other than a "canned" response that they received my email. Maybe they are still having a turkey hangover

I finally heard from Samsung Tech Support and as long as Magician functions without being in Startup, they are happy. Obviously they don't have a clue as to why WMI crashes every time I run Magician manually and they don't really care.
They marked my last email from them as "Resolved" even though I still had questions unanswered.

Sorry for the delay. I have been very ill the last few weeks and just now trying to get back on my feet again.

It it sounds like you figured out the WMI issues and it is probably best to either not use Samsung Magician or only use manually periodically.

Sorry to hear your not feeling well again.
From all indications it looks like Samsung Magician is the culprit so I guess I should mark this long thread as solved then?
