Hi all, just registered with the good 'o' problem. :)

Win 7 Ultimate x64 failing to upgrade to SP1. I downloaded the SP1 directly from microsoft page, started to upgrade, than it said there is not enough space available in C:\. In fact it was true, I had less then 2 GB free. So I reduced the PageFile, and deleted the Hibernation option with "powercnfg -h off" (it made delete the hiberfil.sys which was like 6GB), so now I have 14GB, and started to upload the SP1 manually. It said in the end that it was not successfull due to following reason:

"0x80073712 ERROR_SXS_COMPONENT_STORE_CORRUPT"

CheckSUR downloaded, CBS folder is here. CBS.zip
SFCFix downloaded, result txt file is here. View attachment SFCFix.txt

As you can see Packages are fine, but 759 Payload files are missing ...

Any help is much appreciated in advance!

OK. The error you got "0x80073712 ERROR_SXS_COMPONENT_STORE_CORRUPT" is very bad. See here. But we will take a look to see if it's one of the cases that can be resolved. Please do the following.

Step#1 - Retrieve Components Hive

  • Please download the Freeware RegBak from here: Acelogix Software - Download products
You will find it at the bottom of the page that the link brings you to.
  • Go ahead and install this program and accept all the defaults. After the last install screen the program should open.
  • Click the New Backup button. Accept the defaults and simply click Start.
  • When it says Finished successfully, click the Close button.
  • This will bring you back to the main screen of the program. You will see one entry in this list with the date that you did it. Right-click on this line-item and select Explore Backup...
  • This will bring you into the folder where the backup was made. You should see a Users folder and a Windows folder along with a couple other files. Double-click on the Windows folder to open it. Then open the System32 folder and then config folder. You should see around 6 files in here, one of which is named COMPONENTS.
  • Copy the COMPONENTS file to your Desktop. If the COMPONENTS file does not exist, please fetch it instead from C:\Windows\System32\config\COMPONENTS.
  • Now right click on the COMPONENTS file that is on your desktop and select Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder.
  • Then please upload the zip file (COMPONENTS.zip) to your favourite file sharing website (it will be too big to upload here). Examples of services to upload to are Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and then just provide the link in your reply.
  • You can close any open windows you have as well as the RegBack program now.

Thank you. Please do the following.

Please follow the instructions Here to run the System Update Readiness Tool. When the SURT finishes installing, zip up and attach the following log file.

C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log

Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.

759 missing files is not common. Before we attempt any fixes we need to ensure that your hard drive is in good working order. Can you do the following please?

Step#1 - ChkDsk Scan
1. Click your Start Orb in the lower left of your computer and type cmd in the search box.
2. Once the cmd program is found, right-click on it with your mouse and select Run as administrator as shown below.

3. Answer Yes when asked to allow.
4. You should now have a black window open that you can type in to.
5. Please type chkdsk and then press enter.
6. Chkdsk will start to run. Please allow it to finish. You will know it is running when you see text as follows.
Chkdsk.JPG

7. Download ListChkdskResult.exe by SleepyDude and save it on your desktop. If it's already downloaded to your desktop, just skip this step.
8. Right-click this file and select Run as administrator (Allow if prompted)and a text file will open (and also be saved on the desktop as ListChkdskResult.txt).
Please copy the contents of this file and paste into your next post.

Step#2 - HDD Diagnostics
Warning:: Before doing anything it is a good idea to back up any data/files that are important to you, in case your hard drive is dying. Please see Here

What I recommend from here is to run some HDD diagnostics. Please follow the steps here for SeaTools HDD Diagnostics. Run a Long test and a Short test, then report back the results to this thread.

Items for next post
1. Chkdsk results
2. Results of HDD Diagnostics

I just want to share that I'm a bit busy recently, but I am still here. Trying to get a blank CD to burn out the Diagnostics.

So, here is the CHKDSK log file. Good luck with it, it's in Hungarian language :D

I booted from SeaTools, it said no device was found. Shall I do a HDD check with the manufacturers program? (I have WDC HDD) If yes, can ou please tell me whic one should I download from the link you shared before?

"4. If SeaTools comes up OK, run HDD manufacturer's diagnostics --> Hard Drive Diagnostics Tools and Utilities (Storage) - TACKtech Corp. "

Under that link WDC has like 5-6 different softwares, sorry to say it was not clear which one should I use.

They main thing is that no issues were found with the ChkDsk command.
A Windows megvizsgálta a fájlrendszert, és nem talált hibát.

Yes you should run the Western Digital diagnostics. Use the software from the link below and let me know the results of the Quick Test and Extended Test. Do not run any other tests.

Thanks.

Thanks for the info. We have a lot of files to replace. I don't want to replace any more than about 250 at a time. Let's try this first batch and see how it goes.

Step#1 - SFCFix Script
Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop. If you still have this on your desktop from downloading previously, you don't need to re-download.
  2. Download this file named, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please

Here's another batch.
