[SOLVED] [Win7SP1Pro x64] Missing Packages Related to KB3123862 & KB3035583

I have a suspicion. If you are not comfortable doing the following instructions, please let me know and I'll try to automate it. I'd like to see if you can get to the following key and if you can, if it allows you to delete it. Let me know if any errors come up which is what I suspect.

Manually Delete Registry Key

1. Click your Start button and type regedit in the search box.
2. Right-click on regedit.exe that comes up in the search results and select Run as administrator. Answer Yes to the UAC prompt.
3. The registry editor will open which is a window divided vertically into two panes. Make sure you scroll all the way to the top of the screen and click any black downward pointing arrows so that they turn white and all the keys are collapsed. It should look similar to the following.
View attachment 14229

4. Now click the arrow next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and it will expand all the subkeys beneath it.
5. Scroll down and find the subkey named SOFTWARE and expand that. Continue expanding the following ones Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Component Based Servicing\Packages
6. Beneath Packages you should see a key named Package_1_for_KB3035583~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.3.2 (You will likely need to scroll down but you will eventually get to it)
7. Right-click on the key named Package_1_for_KB3035583~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.3.2 and select Permissions...
8. On the Permissions dialog click the Advanced button.
9. Click the Owner tab on the Advanced Security Settings dialog.
10. Click the Other users or groups... button
11. Type Everyone in the text box and click OK.
12. Check the box "Replace owner on subcontainers and objects".
13. Click the Permissions tab again and uncheck "Include inheritable permissions from this object's parent".
14. If prompted with a Windows Security warning with Add and Remove buttons, click Add.
15. Click OK to close the Advanced Security Settings dialog.
16. Make sure the Everyone group is selected in the Permissions dialog and ensure that the checkbox for Full Control under the Allow column is checked. Click OK.
17. Now, right click on the Package_1_for_KB3035583~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.1.3.2 key and select Delete. Answer Yes to the confirm dialog.

Deleting the key manually was no problem. I was also able to delete the other two keys (Package_for_KB3035583_RTM~ and the plain Package_for_KB3035583~) easily enough as well which caused CheckSUR to come up clean with no issues detected. So I went ahead and tried WU again to see if it worked...

...annnd it didn't. Still getting the same error, with the only difference being that all the SFC/CheckSUR logs come up clean now. :banghead:

> Oh, the Add/Remove Windows Features dialog does work now too, so that's a plus.

> Just for giggles I tried installing the new March rollup that came out today manually through the msu. No dice there either.

> Event log for the manual update I just tried installing says the component store is still corrupted. I'm re-running sfc and checksur one more time but I'm guessing they're both going to come up clean still.

Since it's been over an hour what we'll need to do (the log may have rolled over by now) is attempt to install an update. When it fails, please zip up and attach your CBS.log.

Thanks.

No worries. Here's the fresh batch of logs (fresh enough that I haven't even opened them myself yet).

Yep. I cleared the existing (previously checked) logs, attempted the update (it failed) and then redid sfc and checksur. The logs that resulted are what is posed above.

Ahh...that's the issue. What you want to do is attempt the update and then when it fails, zip up and attach your CBS.log. Don't redo any of the other commands as that will cause the errors I need to roll over.

Okay gotcha that makes more sense. (I was wondering why you'd want me to attempt an update install then redo the store scans. Guess I just misunderstood.)

Here we go.

There we go. Let's fix this.

Code:
2017-03-15 12:55:54, Error CSI 000001c9@2017/3/15:17:55:54.713 (F) d:\win7sp1_gdr\base\wcp\componentstore\storelayout.cpp(11690): Store corruption detected in function ComponentStore::CRawStoreLayout::CheckFamilyIndexForDeadWinnerComponent expression: (null)

Which KB were you trying to install?

Currently 4012215 which is the March update rollup (released yesterday). The issue also occurs with the January rollup package as well.

Thanks. Please do the following.

Looks like we've still got one more little thing to fix. I'm checking to see if I've got a copy of that file handy now so I might have it corrected by your next post (I'll update if I do).

EDIT: Nope, don't have a copy of that exact one. Back to a holding pattern.

Done and done. Still no go. Looks like there's another version of the same file causing an issue this time (same error as post #30, but with a different hash on the end this time). Log attached.
