[SOLVED] 64 bit applications not starting after MS or Firefox update

Thanks for the dump. I'm not sure, but I think, that for some reason your 64-bit app is trying to load 32-bit version of the msvcr100.dll from the "C:\Program Files (x86)\ATI.ACE\Core-Static", which is in your PATH and it ends with the crash. The log from the Sysinternals Procmon would be very helpful to confirm this, but we can start without it:

Try this:
1. Right click Computer icon, select 'Properties'.
2. In the System window click on Advanced system settings in the left pane
3. In the System Properties window select Advanced tab and click on Environment Variables...
4. In the Environment Variables window find in the lower part the "Path" variable, then select it and click Edit
(For security, copy entire content of the Path to notepad and save it to disk)
5. Find the "C:\Program Files (x86)\ATI.ACE\Core-Static" string and remove it, then click OK.

Then try to launch your CorelDraw application.

That path was the last "c:\ ..." path directive appended to the end of the path statement. I took it out. Made no difference.
The uploaded "Coreldrw...." dump WAS from Procdump, run in the directory I was directed to create. I ran the command substituting "CorelDRW.exe" for the "Failing.exe" in the example. I was just a little to thick to figure it out the first time. BTW, it was the exact same file, (at least is started with the exact few paragraphs, and the file length was exactly the same) as the dmp file created by locating CorelDRW.exe in the processes column in Task manager, and the Right clicking it and clicking on "Create dump File". Save file created by the dump of Illustrator 64 after it crashed same way. Same for Lightroom4,64, Same for etc...... 64 bit programs I have that now won't run (except for the software referenced in the "english" portion of the file that I can see. :)

Thanks though, it was worth a try. Now, should the path be restored to it's original configuration???

Thanks,

John

No, please create another dump - I'd like to see what's next. You can also rename the msvcr100.dll in this directory to msvcr100old.dll and then try to run Corel.

Done. Renamed it msvcr100xx.dll. Tried to start Coreldrw.exe. Failed same message. Restored the name (windows had not created a new one). Created new dump with "procdump /ma Coreldrw.exe". Uploaded to Speedy.

Thanks.

Could you provide the link to the dump on the speedyshare? Previously I read it from your screenshot, but this time have nothing :)

Sorry, I'm pulling an all nighter, have contractors coming in about 4 hours for construction drawings I still have not completed. Likely to do anything as this point.

Thanks for the dump. Next time simply copy the 'Download Link' and paste it to the post :)
This time it seems, that there's a problem with the D:\Program Files (x86)\QuickTime\QTSystem\ in the Path. Let's try it in different way.
1. Run cmd.exe
2. Clear the Path. To do this, execute in cmd this command (space only between 'set' and 'PATH')
set PATH=
3. Still in cmd, execute
"D:\Program Files\Corel\CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X6\Programs64\CorelDRW.exe"

Sorry for the delay. My emailer suddenly quit. No mail for the last three days. Crazy problem with Thunderbird. I have 2 email accounts, with exactly the same settings (except for the username varies by a single digit, ie john1@xxxx.xxx and john2@xxxx.xxx. Suddenly the first account will not accept password (again same for both), checks 2nd account OK. I finally had to logon to the host site and manually forward all acct1 mail to acct2. Host site is unable to help me with it. I downloaded Eudora (loved that client years ago in DOS days), installed, but it's the same core as T,bird, so same issue.

How do I get around the "no spaces allowed in DOS" issues. I should know this. But for now, the only result is "D:\program" is not recognized as an internal or external command.
Thanks,

Remembered to execute with quotes. No go. Same error message back in the windows 0xc000007b.
Thanks,

John

It's a self extracting zip. I have been sending files to my contractors and Peazip defaulted to that. Coreldrw.exe the app is much larger than a few meg. The
file name should have been "CorelDRW_130417_034032.exe". My installation of Corel Draw is on my D: drive, and this file was loaded from C:\dumps, which I created.

Thanks,

John

Yes, you are right, my fault, sorry! :)
OK, the PATH is empty now, and the app is trying to load the msvcr100.dll from c:\windows\system32\msvcr100.dll, or from "D:\Program Files\Corel\CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X6\Programs64" and it fails. Could you check, please:
1. see if there's D:\Program Files\Corel\CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X6\Programs64\msvcr100.dll and if yes, please rename it to 'msvcr100old.dll' and try to run CorelDrw.exe the same way I described in #67
2. see if there's c:\windows\system32\msvcr100.dll and if yes - upload it to the speedyshare.com :)

No such file in 64 bit app. File was in windows/system32. Renamed it and got:CorelDrw_System Error.jpg

Is it likely that the other half dozen failing 64 bit apps are accessing that .dll as well??

Just answered my own question. Lightroom4.3, Illustrator 6, both fail with the "cant find msvcr100.dll" message as well. Bitdefender is not installed at the moment. I'll try and install it later, as it failed with 0xc000007b error as well.

Thanks,

John

I should have had a clue, when Bitdefender failed to run. It said the condition error occurred when C++ redistributable package had been corrupted. I've downloaded it and will install shortly. Bit defender failed with a "0x?000007b" error, slightly different than other 64 bit apps, but their failure had been tracked to this issue. I'm pretty sure either a microsoft update, or firefox update was the initial culpret. Thanks, and we'll see what happens next.

Hope it helps :) But if not... next question - have you packed the msvcr100.dll using 64-bit packer? If no, please copy the c:\windows\system32\msvcr100.dll file using windows explorer - simply ctrl+c, ctrl+v it to the c:\dumps and then compress the c:\dumps\msvcr100.dll file and this file upload the file to the speedyshare.com.
Some 32-bit apps are not 64-bit aware and instead of accessing the c:\windows\system32\msvcr100.dll they could access the c:\windows\syswow64\msvcr100.dll ;)

Michal,

Thank you so much! My Adobe 64 bit products are all running. Bit Defender I have fully installed yet. I had to uninstall the version 10 visual c++ package first. The download
complained that it was a newer version. Would that indicate the later version could have caused the problem, with automatic update? Should I let windows update the working version now? As I gradually rebuild my computer to it's pre-error state, may I contact you for further help?

Even though it is working now, do you recommend that I still compress the file and send it to you?

Finally, I think this one can be marked SOLVED!!

John

Richard,

Thanks so much for you help and consideration. Replacing the Visual C++ Redistributal Ver. 10 package "cured" it. At least, all failing 64 bit apps I have tried in the last 30 minutes or so now run. I'm not sure how much I've learned along the way, but by lurking in the corners here and watching you guys solve others problems, some if it is bound to rub off on me, at least I hope so.

Thanks again.
