[SOLVED] [7SP1 x64] Can't install any Monthly Quality Rollups (AGAIN)

Re: [W7SP1 x64] Can't install any Monthly Quality Rollups (AGAIN)

Ah, sorry about that. Please attempt the update now and provide the resulting CBS.log if it fails.

Re: [W7SP1 x64] Can't install any Monthly Quality Rollups (AGAIN)

Are you willing to do the fresh install again? If you are, make sure that you first completely update your Windows and then install all your applications.

I'm not going through that again. I hoped I wouldn't have to do it with the new chip and board, and it took me a month of installing/copying/etc before I was back. I don't want to do another fresh install, but a repair install might work. Every time I tried that, it said a repair install wouldn't work for some reason. Is this not a similar issue to the other thread I started last time? It's not anything hardware related, it's definitely something in Windows...

Re: [W7SP1 x64] Can't install any Monthly Quality Rollups (AGAIN)

Yes, I agree it's something in Windows, but at the moment there's nothing to point us into the right direction, but I was asking about the clean install merely to consider our options. This issue is a bit different from your previous one.

Please do the following:

Step#1 - Capture Process Monitor Trace
1. Download and run Process Monitor. Leave this running while you perform the next steps.
2. Attempt to install the update just like you have in the past.
3. Stop Process Monitor as soon as the update fails. You can simply do this by clicking the magnifying glass on the toolbar as shown below.

4. Select the File menu...Save... and save the file to your desktop. This is likely the default location. The name (unless changed) will be LogFile.PML. This is fine.
5. Zip up and attach the LogFile.PML file as well as your CBS.log.

Ah, I think this is a really great idea! I'm not too familiar with Process monitor, but I think I got something here. Take a look, if I captured it incorrectly, or need to do it again, it's no problem.

Re: [W7SP1 x64] Can't install any Monthly Quality Rollups (AGAIN)

Unfortunately, I have detected a corruption which I am unable to surgically fix and therefore I think your best bet would be either a repair install or a clean install.
Take care.

So Every time I try to do an in place upgrade from the DVD, it eventually gets to the Windows Boot Manager with 2 options. I pick one and windows 7 boots saying the upgrade failed. I got the DVD ISO directly from Microsoft, so it should be good. Could you help with this, or should I open a new topic in a different thread?

Re: [W7SP1 x64] Can't install any Monthly Quality Rollups (AGAIN)

I can try. Do you use any other drives/dual boot or anything similar? Have you tried using a bootable USB to do the install?

I don't dual boot, the only other hdd I have installed is for backups. I would have tried usb but ryzen and windows 7 don't work well with native usb. As it is, I had to use a ps2 mouse and keyboard after it rebooted.

Re: [W7SP1 x64] Can't install any Monthly Quality Rollups (AGAIN)

Since it's Ryzen I'd opt for Windows 10 upgrade to get all the benefits and native USB 3.0 support. Otherwise, go for clean nstall if repair doesn't work.

Neither of those are likely to happen, I'll try to get the repair install working somehow. Thanks anyway

I was able to successfully run an Upgrade Repair install of WIN7SP1x64. I few programs don't function properly after it, but Windows Update seems to work well. It installed the Quality Rollup first try. So I guess we'll see if it's really fixed when the December Quality Rollup appears!

Thanks again for the help.
