[SOLVED] [7SP1 x64] update fails on configuring after reboot

Re: [W7SP1 x64] update fails on configuring after reboot

I need to be better about checking for replies on the forum. I never got the email about the above reply, either. I won't be able to get those files for you until Monday, unfortunately.

Re: [W7SP1 x64] update fails on configuring after reboot

I was able to get the files sooner than expected. See attached. FWIW, I attempted to install KB3110329 twice: the first time, anti-virus was active. I disabled it for the second try, which still failed. The November security update also attempted to install but failed.

Re: [W7SP1 x64] update fails on configuring after reboot

Please do the following.

Step#1 - SFCFix Script
Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.
  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop. If you still have this on your desktop from downloading previously, you don't need to re-download.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please

Re: [W7SP1 x64] update fails on configuring after reboot

Good. Attempt to install the update and if it fails, please provide me the following two logs. Thanks.
Code:
C:\Windows\inf\setupapi.dev.log
 C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

Re: [W7SP1 x64] update fails on configuring after reboot

Aaaand - SUCCESS! KB3110329 installed successfully!! I had already taken that step and was working on this reply when your request came in.

On to the next update: KB3139398. It does still show as needed, but install failed. Hopefully not jumping the gun here, but based on past posts, here are the files you've requested previously after failed updates.

Re: [W7SP1 x64] update fails on configuring after reboot

Awesome! We'll likely need to do the same thing on this one. Assuming you were logged in with the local administrator account when you tried the 2nd update, please do the following.

FRST Fix
NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system
1. Download attached file and save it to the Desktop.
Note. It's important that both files, FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work (in this case...the desktop).
2. Run FRST64 by Right-Clicking on the file and choosing Run as administrator.
3. Press the Fix button just once and wait. If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
4. When finished FRST64 will generate a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please post the contents of it in your reply.

The log looks as I would expect. OK, now please do the following. Note: If you zip the files before uploading they will be much smaller. If you are out of space on your OneDrive account you can delete all the old files or upload them to SendSpace and just provide the link.

Step#1 - SFCFix Script

Sorry for the confusion. I am out of space to attach files to this thread. OneDrive is fine, I've been deleting old files as I go.

Re: [W7SP1 x64] update fails on configuring after reboot

Please do the following.

SFC Scan

  1. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    sfc /scannow

Wait for this to finish before you continue

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt
  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.

Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.

Re: [W7SP1 x64] update fails on configuring after reboot

Can it be? KB3139398 installed!!! I am checking online for any remaining updates: the November roll-up, KB4048957, failed twice but is not showing up as needed at the moment. Suspect it is because I am not logged into the domain. I will update you on that as soon as I can, but wanted to let you know about this latest success.
