[SOLVED] [7SP1Ult x64] After update to IE11 & admin templates, 2 Corrupted Winsxs files.

Re: [7SP1Ult x64] After update to IE11 & admin templates, 2 Corrupted Winsxs files.

Hi,

About a 12-13 minute process, but it finished and the cmd window text simply went back to C:\Windows\System32> with no message.

Thanks, will do. FYI, here is the event log on the uninstall:

Event ID 7 = Windows update "Update for Microsoft Windows (KB958830)" was successfully uninstalled. (Command line: "wusa /uninstall /KB:958830")

Sorry this took a while, please see wetransfer file with cbs.log- WeTransfer

Windows features window is still blank, hopefully the checksur tool will finally do the trick as advertised, with the corrupt RSAT out.

Re: [7SP1Ult x64] After update to IE11 & admin templates, 2 Corrupted Winsxs files.

I chose not to overload this laptop with updates, only install the non-security ones I wanted or learned I'd need, then use Malwarebytes.

I'll do another Belarc to see...

Re: [7SP1Ult x64] After update to IE11 & admin templates, 2 Corrupted Winsxs files.

As you can see, I've only downloaded optional roll-up prerequisite updates, as the blank Turn Features on or off window remains a concern, hope you can advise. But if you don't feel its related to the ie11 update, best to mark this issue as "solved" & I'll start a new thread for this last issue.

Re: [7SP1Ult x64] After update to IE11 & admin templates, 2 Corrupted Winsxs files.

This is usually related to SURT finding corruption, but there is no corruption of any kind detected on your system. There's one final check we can do is: Open CMD as admin and enter: DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

Re: [7SP1Ult x64] After update to IE11 & admin templates, 2 Corrupted Winsxs files.

Thanks, will have to wait until morning; I've always gotten an Error 87 with this cmd, but maybe I used the wrong spacing like many other win.7 ultimate 64 users have.
I thought that because I was using an OEM promotional copy I bought, it missed getting the extra DISM.exe commands...

Re: [7SP1Ult x64] After update to IE11 & admin templates, 2 Corrupted Winsxs files.

Hi,

The good news is that the command worked!!The bad news is here in the wetransfer link with the Checksur log- WeTransfer

Beside your fixes, doing the recommended applicable Microsoft "critical updates" & the sfc /scannow and Checksur tool, for the record:

I tried "chdsk /f /r," the "Raymond fix", "winfix" software, the old "registry size limit" fix, "windows update troubleshooter", loading OptionalFeatures.exe via cmd, copying OptionalFeatures.exe from my MacriumReflect Backup (if not from the original Windows DVD, which I may try in the near future), & the PS Client Manager Module, which made running optionalfeatures via Powershell doable for win. 7 users, has been archived with all the other codplexprojects late last year, & github hasn't yet made the ps module/cmdlets downloads available as of this date.

Doing another "In-Place Upgrade" in hopes of getting the feature back, or trying a "Repair-Install", are the only other options left short of a compete re-install, which are both drastic & risky; & I've seen other Sysnative threads on this subject, with various extended troubleshooting & suggested solutions, that either worked or didn't.

But the "turn windows features on or off -blank window" problem has been universal across all windows OS versions for years, & it's is a shame that Microsoft has not taken any time or effort towards researching exactly why this happens, or offering any real fix for it, leaving it up to forums & users to figure things out on their own, IF possible.

In any case, I thank you for your all of your help (I'll definitely make a donation early next month), & since we cannot really tie the blank OptionalFeatures.exe issue in with the specific issue being the basis for this thread, I think you should mark it as "Solved".

Re: [7SP1Ult x64] After update to IE11 & admin templates, 2 Corrupted Winsxs files.

Will do in a bit. One thing I forgot to mention because I felt it was unrelated, is that I had used Recovery Essentials before I did the upgrade ie11, which removed my recovery partition, thinking it was corrupt. So now I have no built-in repair option, including the ability to create a system repair disc (the original DVD doesn't recognize the upgraded Win.7 system for me to use the recovery from it) ; a new partition, & wimre rebuild process is pending. However, I don't recall having the blank turn features on or off problem after that loss & it shouldn't tie into the reserved partition anyway...

Okay, see the attached snipping tool-pic, & just to let you know, I've waited up to 6 minutes to see if it was just many features having to load that delayed it's appearance as on user had suggested, but NO.
