Perform a new scan with FRST.
  1. Right-click to run the tool as administrator. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  2. Note: Ensure that the Addition.txt check box is checked at the bottom of the form within the Optional Scan area.
  3. Press the Scan button.
  4. Please wait for the tool to finish. It will produce two logfiles called FRST.txt and Addition.txt in the same directory the tool is run from (which should be the desktop)
  5. Post the logfiles FRST.txt and Addition.txt as attachment in your next reply.

Uninstall Avast Update Helper.
Do you use Dropbox ?

Hi Peter.
I have uninstalled Avast update helper and all the other stuff left behind, I thought I had uninstalled Avast, but obviously not completely!
No I don't use drop box to my knowledge.

Thank you,

Kind Regards

Well done. Any improvement after this fix ?

Hi Peter,
As you stated the PC restarted after the fix, I then shut down the PC and rebooted it, but sadly no improvement.
I am most sorry about this and if you feel that the situation is hopeless then I quite understand as you have really put a lot of effort into this problem.

Thank you

Kind Regards

I was only asking how the machine behaves, not quitting yet.
You are using Firefox as a default browser. Why are there so many versions of Opera installed ?

Hi Peter,
Thank you for the reply, it certainly was'nt my intention to sound unappreciative in any way, quite the contrary,so apologies if my reply sounded as though I was.

Yes, Firefox is my default browser, I'm glad you asked about the number of versions of Opera, I did wonder myself, so I checked on the Opera forum and found other user's have also queried this.

Opera does seem to lock up at times , when check on the Task manager there is usually a list of Opera opening several times and then a crash report.

This is mentioned on Youtube and in in varios forums on the internet which is where I found the advice if Opera locks up to open the task manager and clear all the Opera start ups.

It seems that when a new updated version of Opera is installed doesn't remove the previous version, some people asked about removing the older versions of Opera but were advised against doing so as it may cause problems?

Now you mention this, I had noticed on odd occasions the Opera screen has has gone black when using Firefox at the same time.

Sorry in hindsight it might have helped if I had mentioned this before.

Thank you

Kind Regards.

I would uninstall all Opera versions to see if this causes the startup delay.
I you have done that please perform the instructions in message #22 again so we can see if all related tasks are also removed.

Hi Peter,
Tried to uninstall all version's of Opera on at a time, but windows uninstalled them all at once so they must be connected in some way?
Please find attached reports
