Cloning hdd to ssd

Sometimes fixing boot driver / registry / or HAL issues is plain more work than simply re-installing missing software & extracting personal data from a backup / image.

I'm not saying you have to as long as someone is willing to help you "fix" things to "clone, I'm just suggesting you may already have spent more effort on this than "Nuke & Pave" would have been, with potentially as much effort or more still to be expended.

Given a fresh install worked previously, it's worth consideration, unless you have totally unobtanium software installed that not even the Wayback Machine will yield installers for.
My thoughts too, I'd have clean installed long ago....

Let's see what a registry search shows about the device ID

Download the

Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop:

Download the 64 bit version: - Farbar Recovery Scan Tool Link

  • Right-click on the file FRST64.exe and choose Run as administrator.
  • Copy and paste the following (code) into the Search box and click the Search Registry button.
Code:
DISK&VEN_TOSHIBA&PROD_BICS
  • When the scan is complete, a message will display that SearchReg.txt is saved in the same folder FRST was started from.
  • Post the logfile SearchReg.txt as attachment in your next reply.

Hi,

Can you post the DRIVERS hive from the current OS and the new installed Windows on the SSD as well.

Upload your DRIVERS Hive
  • Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\config and locate the DRIVERS file.
  • Please copy this file to your desktop.
  • Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
  • Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To > Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named DRIVERS.ZIP on your desktop.
  • If the file is too large to upload here, upload the file to www.wetransfer.com and post the link in your next reply.

Hi,
Please find the DRIVERS hive attached.
The 7z archive contains drivers hive from both.
The one on the ssd is renamed to drivers.fine

Hi,

Can you post the setupapi.dev.log from the clean install to look which driver package is used?

Thanks, can you attach a copy of the following driver package from the clean install.

Rich (BB code):
     sto:      SCSI\Disk&Ven_&Prod_ST3250318AS\4&73b0e52&0&000000 -> GenDisk [disk_install.NT]
     sto:      SCSI\Disk&Ven_Toshiba&Prod_Bics\4&73b0e52&0&010000 -> GenDisk [disk_install.NT]
     sto: Installed section names:
     sto: disk_install.NT
     sto: {Reflect Driver Package: C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\disk.inf_amd64_cc4dba2066ccf53c\disk.inf}

It does exist. Compared files on both hdd and ssd , only .pnf extension is different, .inf and .sys have same contents.

Thanks, as you pointed out the *.pnf file is corrupt... Maybe this can be fixed, but will ask which is the best way in this case...

Today the windows on the hdd gave disk error in the morning. I booted from ssd drive and it scanned disk and fixed some errors.
After restart hdd boots, it seems fine then a couple of hours later, began give errors while working tried to logoff but screen got blank, no response, had to hit reset button.
Now it gives critical service failed BSOD.

Booted from ssd again run sfc /scannow /offbootdir=D:\ /offwindir=D:\Windows
It is ended with correctiong files, then I run DISM /Image:d:\ /Cleanup-Image /Restorehealth
it ended without any problems.

After restarting from hdd still getting critical service failed BSOD.
Boot ssd again, run sfc and dism like above and they ended without finding any problems.

Please find files from srt folder , how can I get it to boot again?

Hi,

Can you please upload the following files if present:
- The *.dmp files from C:\Windows\Minidump and C:\Windows\Memory.dmp if exist.

To check the HDD, please run the following tool.

Download
520c07ffc7e11-CrystalDiskInfo-Canned.png
Crystal DiskInfo and save it to your Desktop.
  • Run the installer to install the program.
  • When finished, open the installed program by double clicking on it.
    • Good - There are no problems found, the drive is working properly.
    • Caution - The drive have some problems. (which indicates a drive that you should most likely be thinking about backing up and replacing.)
    • Bad - This usually indicates a drive that’s dead or near death. (! - Back up all important data as soon as possible.)
  • Resize the window so that all information is visible.
  • Take a screenshot of what you see and post it in your next reply.
