[SOLVED] Corrupted Windows 10 file(s) CU updates fail

ok, I've booted the laptop from USB and choose the repair option, how do we go about fixing loop issue?
I'm at Choose an option where Troubleshoot is an option.
over to you, please

You can follow these steps to perform a startup repair.
  • On the Install Windows screen, select Next > Repair your computer.
  • On the Choose an option screen, select Troubleshoot.
  • On the Advanced options screen, select Startup Repair.
  • After Startup Repair, select Shutdown, then turn on your PC to see if Windows can boot properly.

thanks, the display now says, Repairing disk errors. This might take over an hour to complete.
I have an appointment to go to so it may be about 2.5 hrs from now before I'm back here.
I'll update when I get back. Thanks for now.

Then I would try perform a clean install and see what happens, if succesful I would recommend to check the HDD first with GSmart Control.
You could also check the HDD of this laptop in another system with a dockingstation.

Follow the instructions below to check your SMART status with GSmartControl

Download

GSmartControl to your desktop.
  • Extract the zip file to your Desktop. Open the folder gsmartcontrol-1.1.4-win64 which should be located on your Desktop and double-click gsmartcontrol.exe to launch the program.
  • Identify your drive in the list (if recognized by the tool), and hover your mouse over it.
  • Please note: If the SMART Status reads: Unsupported, stop and let me know.

  • Otherwise: > double-click on the (problematic) drive you want to test.
  • Open the Self-Tests tab, then select Extended Self-test in the Test type drop-down list and click on Execute (this test can take a few hours to complete).
  • Open the Attributes tab and if you have any entries highlighted in red or pink, take a screenshot of the GSmartControl window and attach it in your next reply;

ok. I tried the boot from usb and repair again.
This time it said use advanced options to try other options and pointed to a log file at;
c:\WINDOWS\System32\logfiles\Srt\SrtTrail.txt
if you need to look at this log, tell me how, if not I'll start the other suggestion.
can I do the clean install from this boot usb or what?

This doesn't sound hopeful, and yes you could start a clean install from the same USB-stick.

would there be any restore points from the in-place upgrade.?
The upgrade option is NOT available when starting from windows installation media, the other is custom install
that doesn't save files and apps
can I save files and apps with the clean install?

I started going through the clean install and it asks Where do you want to install windows, it has 5 partitions and the logical
one to choose is Drive 0 Partition 3 (which is the Primary), the next screen tells me about Windows.old will be created, that's ok,
but the next screen says; The partitions on the disk selected for installation are not in the recommended order. For additional
information about installing to GPT disks go to the Microsoft website (gives url) and search for GPT. Do you want to proceed?

So, what's that about?

Could you please take a picture of the screen with the 5 partitions and attach it to your next reply?

It seems your system is GPT formatted, and this laptop is still using an MBR based filesystem. I would suggest to create a new USB-stick with Rufus and the ISO-file of Windows with the following options. (Sorry the screenshot is in Dutch, but the options might be clear to follow).

1. Select the USB-stick.
2. Select the ISO file of Windows 10 you have created with the Media Creation Tool before.
3. Change GPT to MBR.
4. Click start.

After starting Rufus, the Windows User Eperience screen appears, do any of the boxes in there need checking or filling?
none of the boxes had check marks in them but the input area for the first (local acct) was pre-filled with my userid first 5 characters?

Please close the Media Creation Tool first after the ISO is written to the system. Then use Rufus to create the USB-stick with the ISO-file.

ok, will do. I wasn't sure what to do when it got to burning dvd and I saw the iso on the desktop so I left it running.
I thought maybe if I clicked Finish it would start the search for a dvd to burn.
So those 3 boxes stay uncheck and NO info in the create local account? OR check 1st box and put first 5 (or full?) of laptop owner's id?

Please restart the system and try again to create the USB-Stick with Rufus.
