Awesome :) Now, let's see if the SFC scan goes throught.

EndqYRa.png
System File Checker (SFC)
Follow the instructions below to run a SFC scan on your system and to provide the CBS log in your next reply;
  • On Windows Vista & 7, click on the Windows Start Menu, then enter cmd in the search box, right-click on the cmd icon and select
    Spcusrh.png
    Run as Administrator
  • On Windows 8, drag your cursor in the bottom-left corner, and right-click on the metro menu preview, then select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • On Windows 8.1, right click on the Windows logo in the bottom-left corner and select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • Enter the command below and press on Enter;
    Code:
    sfc /scannow
    Note: There's a space between "sfc" and "/scannow";
  • Once the scan is complete, enter the command below and press on Enter
    Code:
    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
  • A file called cbs.txt will have appeared on your Desktop. Upload the file on Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive and post the download URL for it here;
Note: Please note that the CBS.log is volatile, which means that if you don't upload it after the SFC scan is completed, it won't contains the information from the scan anymore. So archive it and upload it as soon as you can.

Yes, so I can see why it fails to run

Follow the instructions below owr, we're back to the first error we encountered and we'll fix it.
  • Open the Registry Editor (regedit.exe) and navigate to the following key:
    Code:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SideBySide\Winners\amd64_1d1dba042fa763d03f3cd84ea7bd6938_b03f5f7f11d50a3a[none_c6510489884c25fb
  • Right click on the amd64_1d1dba042fa763d03f3cd84ea7bd6938_b03f5f7f11d50a3a[none_c6510489884c25fb and select Export Key;
  • Save the file as a .reg file on your Desktop;
  • Right-click on the file you saved and select Edit/Modify;
  • Copy/paste its content in your next reply;

Sigh...
The first time I click on the key, it tells me that it cannot be opened and that the system cannot find the file specified.
When I right click on it again to select export and then try to save it, I get a window titled "export registry File" that says "The selected branch does not exist. Make sure that the correct path is given."

Open a command prompt as Admin (right-click on it and select Run as Administrator) and enter this command:
Code:
reg.exe export "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SideBySide\Winners\amd64_1d1dba042fa763d03f3cd84ea7bd6938_b03f5f7f11d50a3a[none_c6510489884c25fb" "%userprofile%\Desktop\Export.reg"
This will create an Export.reg file on your Desktop. Edit it and copy/paste its content here.

double sigh...

"ERROR: The system was unable to find the specified registry or value."

Looks like I'll have to do it myself and give you a new key.

Retrieve Software Hive
Note: The Software have has confidential and sensitive information in it so please send me a PM with a link to that particular hive so it's not in the public form.
  • Please download the Freeware RegBak from here: Acelogix Software - Download products
    You will find it at the bottom of the page that the link brings you to.
  • Go ahead and install this program and accept all the defaults. After the last install screen the program should open.
  • Click the New Backup button. Accept the defaults and simply click Start.
  • When it says Finished successfully, click the Close button.
  • This will bring you back to the main screen of the program. You will see one entry in this list with the date that you did it. Right-click on this line-item and select Explore Backup...
  • This will bring you into the folder where the backup was made. You should see a Users folder and a Windows folder along with a couple other files. Double-click on the Windows folder to open it. Then open the System32 folder and then config folder. You should see around 6 files in here, one of which is named SOFTWARE.
  • Copy this file to your Desktop.
  • Now right click on this files on your desktop and select Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder.
  • Then please upload the zip file(s) to your favourite file sharing website (it will be too big to upload here). Examples of services to upload to are Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and then just provide the link in a PM to me.
  • You can close any open windows you have as well as the RegBack program now.

Alright so here's the plan. I managed to fix the Registry key by loading the Hive locally on my system. Since it's in an offline mode, it let me change it without trouble. Now, since the Software Hive is highly volatile, we need to repeat the process but while we are both online and do it as fast as we can. I'll test the process in one of my VM first to make sure I get it right, and then I'll post the instructions. May I ask you what timezone you are in (you can tell me what time it is actually and I'll guess it out), and also let me know around what time you'll be online tomorrow? It's currently 21:07 here, on the 17th.

So we're in the same timezone. I usually eat lunch at work from 12 to 1, is that good with you?

Alright we'll have to do that later on tonight or tomorrow evening. It seems that my Windows 7 work laptop, and also Windows 7 VM doesn't allow me to replace the key. So I guess that I'll have to do it from my Windows 10 home desktop (which worked yesterday).
