I do not have that key. The closest I have is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\SystemRestore
In your version, did you leave out "CurrentVersion"?
At this point you could always do a Repair Install of your Windows 7 to solve the Registry issue, System Restore, etc. it might be faster, but the choice is yours. A Repair Install will pretty much reinstall Windows and leave your programs, personal files, settings, etc. intact, but repair the system files, settings, etc.
I think that is going to be the best way. When you say "repair install" do you mean boot from the original DVD and then what? I don't want to lose my documents and installed programs.
Yeah, I think I will toss a backup drive in and save off the important stuff. That is going to take a while, So I will send you a PM when it is done. Thank you very much for your help.
No problem :) You can send me a PM or post here. And to be honest, with decent hardware it should take less than an hour. Now the hassle after is to reinstall all the Windows Update. I usually install all the Important ones first, then move on to the Recommended after.
Another problem. I started the repair of windows using the guide you posted. I did as it said to download any new install files. That was over 9 hours ago and the screen is still asking me to "Please Wait..." I don't have time this morning, but I am thinking of stopping the procedure and then restarting, but not download. Also, can the repair be done in safe mode?
You can boot from the installation media and launch the repair install like that if you wish. I don't know if it'll work in Safe Mode however, never tried it.
My system is so hosed. Now I've lost my network connection on it. At this point, I think I am going to throw a new hard drive in and do a fresh install. I just need to go through the old drive first and make sure I can transfer a couple of licensed programs (tuneup and anydvd). Thanks for all your help.
No problem owr, sorry that the installation isn't going well. For your Network connection, it might just be a matter of missing Ethernet/Network Controller drivers.
