Error 80070002, Win 7-64 Ultimate Cannot Update

Sorry for the delay owr. Just posting to say that I didn't forget about you, I'm just practicing the steps you'll have to go throught for the replacement of the Hive since it's a really sensible procedure. Once I have the "Ok" from my teacher, we'll do it :) We'll have to do it during the evening (which is starting around 5:30-6:00PM, EST. Time, UTC-5) since I need to modify your Hive under my Windows 10 system.

Alright so I'm able to modify it. It is currently 5:15 PM here, and I'll be online till 10 PM. So if you want to do it tonight, simply post to let me know and we'll get started right away. As soon as you follow the next set of instructions I'll post, we have to do this as fast as possible. I expect to be able to download, load, modify, unload and upload your Hive under 5 minutes which should be more than enough.

Alright follow the instructions below please, one at the time. If you cannot do them, let me know. Close all your open programs and apps until we're done.

First we'll create a Restore Point as a back-up.

Create a new System Restore Point
  • For Windows 7, click on the Windows Start Menu, right-click on Computer and select Properties;
  • For Windows 8, bring the cursor in the bottom left-corner of the screen and wait for the metro preview to open, then right-click on it and select System;
  • For Windows 8.1, right-click on the Windows logo in the bottom-left corner and select System;
  • Click on Advanced System Settings in the left pane;
  • Click on the System Protection tab;
  • Click on the Create... button;
  • Enter a descriptive name for the System Restore point you are about to create, and click on Create;
  • Wait until the creation is complete;

Once done, we'll disable the Windows Update service so it doesn't modify the Hive while I modify it.
  • Click on the Windows Start menu and enter cmd, then right-click on the cmd icon and select Run as Administrator;
  • In the command prompt, enter the following command:
    Code:
    net stop wuauserv
  • It should tell you that the Windows Update service has been successfully stopped;

Now it's time for you to upload your Software Hive for me once more and PM me the download link.

Retrieve Software Hive
Note: The Software have has confidential and sensitive information in it so please send me a PM with a link to that particular hive so it's not in the public form.
  • Please download the Freeware RegBak from here: Acelogix Software - Download products
    You will find it at the bottom of the page that the link brings you to.
  • Go ahead and install this program and accept all the defaults. After the last install screen the program should open.
  • Click the New Backup button. Accept the defaults and simply click Start.
  • When it says Finished successfully, click the Close button.
  • This will bring you back to the main screen of the program. You will see one entry in this list with the date that you did it. Right-click on this line-item and select Explore Backup...
  • This will bring you into the folder where the backup was made. You should see a Users folder and a Windows folder along with a couple other files. Double-click on the Windows folder to open it. Then open the System32 folder and then config folder. You should see around 6 files in here, one of which is named SOFTWARE.
  • Copy this file to your Desktop.
  • Now right click on this files on your desktop and select Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder.
  • Then please upload the zip file(s) to your favourite file sharing website (it will be too big to upload here). Examples of services to upload to are Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and then just provide the link in a PM to me.
  • You can close any open windows you have as well as the RegBack program now.

I'll be awaiting your PM.

Problem - I am following the steps:

I tried typing restore point then selecting create a restore point and it takes me to the same advanced menu

Can you re-attach the screenshot? It doesn't work on my side, looks like the attachment failed.

Go in services.msc and look for Volume Shadow Copy. Is the service Started or Stopped?

Right-click on it and select Properties. From there, switch the Startup type to Automatic and also Start the service.

Alright, do you have the System Protection tab now?

Yes please, and see if it appears. If it doesn't I'll make you try something else.
