I uninstalled Avira as much as I could using Revo Uninstaller. I couldn't delete the Avira folders from Program Files and Program Data because I'm "not" an administrator.
The Microsoft link was not helpful. The fix it was a dead end (shocker). I looked in the registry to see if there were any keys that shouldn't be there like the article said and found none.

The ISO that you downloaded should now have an icon on it that looks like a monkey. If so, can you double-click the ISO. It will mount and may ask you to open it which you do want to do. Let me know if it does.

When I double click the ISO nothing happens.

If you right-click the ISO is there an option for Mount? Is there a drive letter next to it?

When I right click there is no option for mount. Just the normal options like open, unzip, send to...

Is one of your icons in the bottom right of your screen a picture of a monkey? You may need to click the up arrow to see them all.

My arrow showing more icons in the bottom right corner has suddenly vanished but there is no monkey icon among those icons I can view.

Double-click the DVDFab icon on your desktop. Then check to see if the icon appears in the lower right.

When I double clicked it I got "DVDFab Virtual Drive is mismatched."
If this is relevant, with the link you sent me, when I clicked on download, nothing happened. So I found the link on Major Geeks and downloaded the program there:

Malwarebytes flagged DVDFab as malware so I felt more comfortable using Major Geeks anyway. But that may or may not be why I got that error message.
Just a heads up I'm going to need to go to the gym now. Let me know what you want me to do next and I'll do it as soon as I get back online in a few hours.

OK, talk to you later. Do you have a USB stick that is at least 4GB that we can use? I believe you said you only had a 2GB one.

No to both questions but I will be making a Staples visit either tonight or tomorrow so could potentially buy them there if necessary.
