Excellent. The logs are finally clear. How's your machine doing now?

Much better, i don't know how to thank you and i've learnt quite a lot. I still haven't got IE11 or Skype...they won't work at all. Any suggestions as to what to do as i've reinstalled both about four times. Microsoft Security Essentials went the way of Skype and IE10/11 too...so what to replace that with, i don't know.

Any further thoughts on what anti virus/clean up to use as i've decided not to put ASC pro back in for obvious reasons. If it is true that they are stealing other companies keygen's etc as MB reported, then i want nothing to do with them...as for the premium i paid this year i'll just suck it up.

The one thing i am pleased about is AOL Desktop - i've been without it for a month and i hate all the other email sites. LOL
(okay guys - you can stop groaning now, us women still like it.)

I cannot thank you enough for all your help, you have no idea how much i appreciate the time you've spent with me.

No problem. Let's focus on your other issues now starting with IE 11. Please manually download IE11 and attempt to install. If it fails to install, please provide me with the following two logs.
C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log
C:\Windows\IE11_Main.log

As far as what to use for AV I suggest the following. Only install one of them. Having more than one is not good.
Free Options
Microsoft Security Essentials
Avast Free

Paid Options
ESET

Thank you. Please do the following.

Oops i spoke too soon. LOL

All browsers are dead slow and stop...i cannot watch TV and open an email together everything sticks...and yet i have 72.1 MB/s download speed which is really good, so why is this happening please?

I did Speccy if that helps ... there are things that i do not understand so will not attempt to fix. is there anyway you can help me please?

I managed to sort the IE problem out - for some reason IE11 was dropping the s from https...in Startpage, i have no idea how but it's all back to normal now. What i did was put msn as my search page, remove it then go back to Startpage and it all came good.

OK good, so which issue would you like to work on first?

Basically i'd like to know why my machine feels like Dial up when i'm on BT Infinity. I cannot do two things at once...it just freezes up all the time. Skype closes immediately you open it still.

I have 4gb Ram (can't put any more in so it says, don't have any more slots) i have 385gb free on the C Drive...but everything is at a crawl...i defra, what am i not doing?. I thought it was because i had so many problems but they are fixed now so why is it still the same?

Two Net framework updates just failed if that's any help.

Understood. Let's first check the health of your disk.

GSmartControl
Follow the instructions below to test your hard drive health with GSmartControl:

  • Download GSmartControl and save it on your Desktop;
  • Extract the content of the GSmartControl .zip archive and execute gsmartcontrol.exe;
  • Identify your drive in the list, and double-click on it to bring up it's window (usually you'll find your drive by it's size or it's brand name);
  • Go in the Perform Tests tab, then select Extended Self-test in the Test type drop-down list and click on Execute (this test can take a few hours to complete);
  • Once the test is over, the results will be displayed at the bottom of the window. Please copy and paste these results in your next reply;
  • Also, go in the Attributes tab and if you have any entries highlighted in red or pink, copy and paste their name in your next reply (or take a screenshot of the GSmartControl window and attach it in your next reply);

Let's run a short test and long test on your Maxtor drive first using SeaTools.

Do you happen to have your two Western Digital drives in a RAID configuration? If so is it RAID 0 or RAID 1?

Thanks.

This is don't know because someone else put them in for me and I knew nothing much about computers three years so wouldn't even know what RAID was unfortunately. They are the names of the HDD's so I'm guessing no RAID or software...can't be sure though, is there some way I could find out please?

Also forgot to say that the short tests passed but the long test failed...only two drives came up though.

Yes I can show you how to find out. Can you tell me which drive the test was run on? Can you confirm that it was the Maxtor?

There were only two showing up so I tested both.

The two 500gb's are the same make but the third smaller one was my original 150gb drive.
