[SOLVED] First Post - Windows 7 Update Failure

This is probably not the right forum for getting the scanner back but I've got some tax documents and Medicare documents to scan. I'm not sure why it's been intermittent. It did not work when we started this process, then it worked fine and now it's not working again. The scripted diagnostics native host seems to be the culprit but I'm not sure why it stopped working.

We can have a look at the scanner issue also. It is not good having 2 threads opened at the same time for the same computer to avoid conflicting/confusing instructions for you and the helpers.

Step 1:
Warning: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Do not run this script on another machine.
  1. Download the attachment fixlist.txt and save it to your desktop.
  2. Right-click on FRST64.exe and select "Run as administrator".
  3. Press the Fix button.
  4. The tool will now process fixlist.txt.
  5. If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
  6. When finished, a log called Fixlog.txt will appear in the same directory the tool is run from.
  7. Attach the logfile Fixlog.txt to your next reply.

Step 2:
Install Update with DISM
  1. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each.

    cd C:\temp
replace C:\temp with your path if different

    DISM.exe /Online /Add-Package /PackagePath:C:\temp\windows6.1-kb4054518-x64.cab
  4. You should receive the message:
    The operation completed successfully.
Make sure to allow the computer to restart if prompted.
  5. If you receive any other message:
Post a screenshot of the Commandprompt window.
Zip and attach the file C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

Step 3:
  1. Right-click on FRST64.exe and select "Run as administrator".
  2. Note: Ensure that the Addition.txt check box is checked at the bottom of the form within the Optional Scan area.
  3. Press the Scan button.
  4. Please wait for the tool to finish. It will produce two logfiles called FRST.txt and Addition.txt in the same directory the tool is run from (which should be the desktop)
  5. Post the logfiles FRST.txt and Addition.txt as attachment in your next reply.

Should I save a new disk image now that update KB4054518 is installed?
Yes please.

After that restart the machine.
Follow the instructions below to run a scan with the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) and provide a log.
  1. Download SURT for your system. (Windows 7 SP1 x64)
  2. Once downloaded, execute the installer, and go through the installation (this process can take around 15-20 minutes).
  3. On completion, a log will be created in C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log.
  4. Attach this log to your next reply.
Alternatively, if these instructions are unclear for you, you can follow the tutorial below.

The file I have is "windows6.1-kb947821-v34-x64_cc4a605bcda8288af75983312e8fb25367e98fdd" and it's 551.5 KB. When I double click it I get the attached error message.

That file is not in the folder. Screen shot attached.

Oh, forgot to mention that the Command Prompt message was to reboot the system to roll back any changes. Should I reboot?

Yes.

After the restart, open an elevated command prompt.
Copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each.

Code:
sfc /scannow
Wait for this to finish before you continue

Code:
copy %windir%\Logs\CBS\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Zip this file and attach the zipped cbs.txt to your next post.

Unfortunately I think we are back to that point where the KB3037574 install attempt has corrupted the video drivers. Upon restart the computer is sitting with the dark screen and the mouse pointer in the center. The mouse pointer moves with the mouse but it's been like this for 20 minutes. How long should I give it before attempting something else and what do you suggest?

I'm sending this from the Windows 10 laptop.
