[SOLVED] First Post - Windows 7 Update Failure

I'd really like to get the scanner working. There is a lot of tax documents I need to scan. I'm not sure where it stopped working in this process but I need to use it if possible.

Here are a couple screen grabs of the scanner driver (general and properties). It may be that one of the missing security updates is the problem. I also think there is a security update that's necessary for the NVIDIA graphics card to run the most current drivers. It's related to the SHA-2 signed drivers which is a windows update that fails to install on my computer.

Oops . . . I did a restart and got the black screen again. The only change made was running sfc /scannow so that must have changed something that causes the black screen. I've restored again (the 3rd time) from the same restore point and the computer seems to be running OK.

The computer rebooted fine again ?

Open an elevated command prompt.
Copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each.

Code:
sfc /scannow
Wait for this to finish before you continue

Code:
copy %windir%\Logs\CBS\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Zip this file and attach the zipped cbs.txt to your next post.

Yes, the computer rebooted fine after the SFCFix. I'll bet that it will black screen again when I reboot after running sfc /scannow.

sfc / scannow screen grab and CBS file is attached.

The reboot was another black screen so sfc /scannow breaks something each time we use it. Until this can be solved there is no point in running sfc /scannow unless it's a test for some other fix.

I'm restored back to the same 2/19/2024 10:21:32 AM restore point.

The command sfc /scannow is a test to see if the fix worked and to determine the remaining issues.

Start Windows in safe mode.
Perform the instructions in message #424 while in safe mode.
When completed restart Windows in normal mode.
Report the result and attach the SFCFix log file.

The SFCFix required a restart, but it restarted in safe mode since I'd used msconfig to set the safe mode. This computer does not have a function key boot option to go into safe mode so you have to do it manually using msconfig or the command prompt. I had to reboot in safe mode twice because the first time my keyboard was not working so I could not type msconfig. The second time it booted in safe mode I was able to run msconfig and turn off safe mode, reboot, and let SFCFix complete.

The SFCFix file is attached. Again though, I have no idea if the computer will reboot correctly. Hopefully it will.

Try to create a restore point first then reboot.
Report the result.

As you know, I'm using Malwarebytes. Here is the setup. Please let me know if this is OK for the troubleshooting we are doing.

Just for the record, when we do the SFCFix in safe mode the 2nd part of the fix has to be completed in normal mode.
