having Issues getting corrupted files replaced.

Windows SFc did not find any issues. I am still having problems getting windows search to work. Any other ideas? If you dont have any ideas do you have any ideas where I can do more research?

Services Scan:
1. Click the Start button and then type cmd in the searchbox. Right-click on cmd that comes up in the search results and select Run as administrator.
2. A User Account Control dialog may come up asking for approval. If it does go ahead and allow.
3. A command prompt window will open. Copy and paste the following into the command-prompt and hit enter.
wmic service get name,displayname,pathname,startmode,exitcode > "%USERPROFILE%\desktop\services.txt"
4. After the command runs there will be a file on your desktop named services.txt.
5. Attach this file to your next reply.

Did you had BitDefender antivirus installed ?

Right-click FRST64.exe to run the tool as administrator. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
Note: Ensure that the Addition.txt check box is checked at the bottom of the form within the Optional Scan area.
Press the Scan button.
Please wait for the tool to finish. It will produce two logfiles called FRST.txt and Addition.txt in the same directory the tool is run from (which should be the desktop)
Post the logfiles FRST.txt and Addition.txt as attachment in your next reply.

I ran an online scan with Bitdefender. I am guessing that you are telling me that bitdefender online removed some registry entries?

No, a service of BitDefender is listed so I wandered why.

The Windows Search service is running normally. What problems do you have exactly ?

When I open services the ability to start windows search has been greyed out. Here is a print screen of the erro that I receive when I go to services and try to start windows search manually.
search service not running.png

If the service is already started, the start button for that service is disabled (greyed out).

it is still not working. I cannot start it manually in services. I think that you may be onto something even if it was only in referring to a bit defender file running in my windows file loacation. I have looked in several places on the web and it does look like CC cleaner and antivirus programs like kaspersky and bitdefender remove a registry entry that affects its ability to operate. I have used CC cleaner under the belief that it was the only registry removal program that was safe. I have also used Kaspersy and Bitdefender as well as runscanner, norton none of them concurrently.

I missed your previous post. I guess If I cannot restart it it must be running. Thank you for your help. Sorry I misunderstood the issue.

The use of so-called system optimizers or registry cleaners is always a risk. CCleaner is considered to be safe to use because it creates a backup of the registry first before doing any changes.

Is the issue with Windows Search solved ?
If so, please post the solution or a link to it.

Looking at the 2 log files created by FRST:
Uninstall following programs which are no longer supported by Adobe which may lead to a security risk:
- Adobe Shockwave Player 12.1
- Adobe Shockwave Player 12.3

Uninstall the old versions of Java:
- Java 8 Update 261 (64-bit)
- Java 8 Update 271 (64-bit)
- Java 8 Update 271

Before posting a FRST fix, are CCleaner and Norton Security Suite uninstalled ?

I removed
- Adobe Shockwave Player 12.1
- Adobe Shockwave Player 12.3

- Java 8 Update 261 (64-bit)
- Java 8 Update 271 (64-bit)
- Java 8 Update 271
CCleaner is gone
Norton is gone
I am using Microsoft Defender.
I do not think that the search issue is resolved. I still cannot search

I am using Mi

Please do not install new software while we are working in this thread.

  1. Download the attachment fixlist.txt and save it to your desktop.
  2. Right-click on FRST64.exe and select "Run as administrator".
  3. Press the Fix button.
  4. The tool will now process fixlist.txt.
  5. If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
  6. When finished, a log called Fixlog.txt will appear in the same directory the tool is run from.
  7. Post the logfile Fixlog.txt as attachment in your next reply.

Yep I know not to install other software while troubleshooting. I consider Web Companion a viris even if it is from a legitimate company. I removed it when I saw that it was on the computer. It looks like it was a drive by add on. I do have to remove and install software that is work related. I will do my best to keep it to a minimum.
