Check Windows Search and report the result.

Same issue. When I search it doesn't search. When I open services it shows search as being set up to start up automatically. Start is greyed out. When I reset search as starting automatically rather than delayed automatically the greyed out search box becomes available. I press on the start seach button and it attempts to start but then gives me the error that you see on the Jpeg attached.

I was looking to see if I could find the solution to the issue. I found 8 steps to try to repair windows 8.1 search. I have done most of them already at other times but I ran through all of them anyway. No help from any of them. I did get to step 7 and step 8 and got error message that might help.

Step 6s when I run all of these it says that all of them are running except in
the last one. Which gives me the error message below:

Method 6:
Run these commands and check if it helps.
a. From Start screen, type Command prompt. Right-click on Command Prompt and choose Run as Administrator.

b. Now, type the commands and press Enter key after each command.
sc start DCOMLaunch
sc start RpcSs
sc config wsearch start= auto
sc start wsearch

SERVICE_NAME: wsearch
TYPE : 10 WIN32_OWN_PROCESS
STATE : 2 START_PENDING
(NOT_STOPPABLE, NOT_PAUSABLE, IGNORES_SHUTDOWN)
WIN32_EXIT_CODE : 0 (0x0)
SERVICE_EXIT_CODE : 0 (0x0)
CHECKPOINT : 0x0
WAIT_HINT : 0x7d0
PID : 13188
FLAGS :

C:\Windows\system32>

Then when I run step 8 which is as follows I find that there is no checkbox available to either turn windows search on or turn windows search off.

Method 8:

If that does not help, then I would suggest you to turn off and then turn on Windows Search and check.
a. From Start screen, type Programs and Features, choose Programs and Features.
b. Click on Turn Windows features on or off.

c. Find Windows Search and uncheck the option.
Now, click on OK and restart the computer.

Now, follow the same steps to turn on Windows search feature by placing a check mark next to Windows Search.

**And also on the "Method 8" I don't have a "Windows Search" listed on "Turn Windows features on or off"

Does that indicate that the windows search file is missing?

I looked in windows / system32 folder and it has
SearchIndexer.exe in it. If it were corrupted I would think that Sfc Scan would replace it.

I was just looking at searchindexer because it seems like it it always "stopping" but never stops. I checked for the PID to stop it from a command prompt. This was the response that I got when I wanted the PID of Searchindexer:

Microsoft Windows [Version 6.3.9600]
(c) 2013 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

C:\Windows\system32>sc queryex searchindexer.exe
[SC] EnumQueryServicesStatus:OpenService FAILED 1060:

The specified service does not exist as an installed service.

C:\Windows\system32>sc queryex searchindexer
[SC] EnumQueryServicesStatus:OpenService FAILED 1060:

The specified service does not exist as an installed service.

C:\Windows\system32>sc query SearchIndexer.exe
[SC] EnumQueryServicesStatus:OpenService FAILED 1060:

The specified service does not exist as an installed service.

So It seems like the file is there in system32 folder it doesn't seem to know that it is there. Does it need to be registered?

C:\Windows\system32>

In Windows 8.1, Windows Search isn't listed in "Turn Windows features on or off".
The 3 sc commands you ran in your last post are incorrect and returns the error message.

ok. I still cannot turn it on in services any other ideas?

i went to START> CONTROL PANEL> INDEXINIG OPTIONS> CLICK ADVANCED> CLICK ON REBUILD/COMPETED> RESTART COMPUTER>

then I restarted the computer and it does not seem to be indexing. Microsoft Office outlook is indexing the email when I open it.

Post a screenshot of the window START> CONTROL PANEL> INDEXING OPTIONS

In the screenshot, click Troubleshoot search and Indexing. Put one or multiple checkmarks at the options listed in the upcoming screen and press Next.
Post a screenshot of the result.

The first screen shot is after running without administrator status. The second is with administrator status.
