having Issues getting corrupted files replaced.

Are you able to change the 2 inputboxes for the Index location now ?

I cannot remember which input boxes were not usable so I am going to guess. Under indexing advanced options index settings file settings I cannot check index encrypted files. I also cannot check treat similar words with diacritics as different words. Under troubleshooting I can press the Delete and re-index rebuild button. In that same window it says index location. It shows no index location nor do I have any options that I can change. Below that is new location after the service is restarted dialog box. It shows the current location as greyed out and no current location. It also shows the new location after the service is restarted box as greyed out and there is no location showing. When I press the Delete and re-index button I get a pop up window that tells me: rebuilding the index may take a long time to complete. Some views and search results might be incomplete until rebuilding is finished. I click ok to start the indexing and the box closes and it gives the message under indexing options indexing is not running. Selecting troubleshooting starts the troubleshooter and gives me the message indexing is not running.

Open an elevated commandprompt.
Copy and paste the following command into the commandprompt window and press enter.
sc start WSearch

Leave the commandprompt open.
Open the Advanced Indexing window again. Click the Rebuild button and report the result.

After the rebuild button the response is a window title "Rebuild Index" "Rebuilding the index may take a long time to complete. Some views and search results might be incomplete until rebuilding is finished. I select OK the window closes. The "indexing options" window is left open and it reports indexing is not running. When I close that window it will not close and it is hanging. I left it for 60 minutes to see if it windows would eventually close it and it did not so I did a control alt delete and selected task manager and found indexing options and closed it.

Very strange why the service fails to run.

Download the Adobe Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool
When downloaded right-click the file and select Run as administrator.
A window opens asking to choose a language. Press E for English and press Enter.
The disclaimer information is shown. Press Y for Yes and press Enter.
Next, press 1 and Enter to allow the tool to clean up all Adobe products.
When the tool reports it has finished the clean up reboot the machine.

Please report the result.
Check the Windows Search again and report the result also.

Create another user-account on this machine.
Does the search function work when logged in with the new account ?

I created a new user account and the search was either exactly or almost exactly the same as in my main user profile.

I'm almost out of options on this issue. Please do following.

Capture Process Monitor Trace
  1. Download Process Monitor.
  2. Open an elevated commandprompt.
  3. Run the downloaded tool "Process Monitor" and leave this running while you perform the next steps.
  4. Copy and paste the following command into the commandprompt window and press enter.
    SC START WSEARCH

  5. After about 6 seconds copy and paste the following command into the commandprompt window and press enter.
    SC QUERY WSEARCH

  6. Stop Process Monitor when the command at step 5 has finished. You can simply do this by clicking the magnifying glass on the toolbar as shown below.

  7. Select the File menu...Save... and save the file to your desktop. This is likely the default location. The name (unless changed) will be LogFile.PML. This is fine.
  8. Zip up and attach the LogFile.PML file to your next reply.

I am guessing that this issue is the cause or a symptom of my issue.

1. I run "process monitor" I see no signs of it running. (no window that pops open move and close any open windows -nothing).
2. I do a crtl +alt +Del and i see three process Monitors running
3. I would think the running process monitor could be stopped and save a log file but I have no way of stopping and saving a log file.

Side note on booting the computer I notice in Task manager that indexing is runninng immediately on boot up. Then after about 2 minutes it shuts down which would seem it is running normally. It never seems to restart when it is needed (ie running reindexing in the control panel or doing a search through a drive. Is it possible that another executable that runs as a delayed start is shutting it down?

The full name of the Service that runs and shuts down and will not run again is =Microsoft Windows Search Indexer

I stand corrected. When I run process Monitor i get a window that opens and says process monitor but there is no panel that I can go to to stop it and save a logfile that I can see.

I booted and rebooted several times and It ran checkdisk each time. Process monitor is now running and I got the window you described. Here is the file.

It says the file which I compressed with 7 zip is too large. I think that I was supposed to use the Looking glass to get a start time and an end time on the process Monitor file? So I will try it again.

it eventually opens after 10 minutes. I don't know if this is correct or not. This zipped file was too large to upload also.
