[SOLVED] Mail Contacts List Issue

I got the phone call I expected 1-850-318-1816. This is a new number. The same guy was adamant that I had to have the service. He claimed there was something on the yahoo network specifically for me and my wife that could not be removed. I told him in the heated
discussion to talk to his State Fraud Agency. When I sent the complaint they said it will take a couple of weeks to contact them.
The call was prompted by one or more of the credit card companies telling them the payments are in dispute.
Isn't the 850 exchange in your area? Last week they were in Chicago.
I hope you are able to get more information on this by any means.
Thanks

850 is in my area.

Unless you want to, you don't have to talk to them at all. But by all means, as long as you are talking to that person, that person is not scamming someone else.

I'll let you know what I dig up.

When I told him the reason for my concern was that there is NO YAHOO NETWORK, he asked how I found that out. I said nothing. I certainly
hope not to talk to them again. The changing phone numbers could be a problem, but I am just not going to answer an 8xx exchange.
I didn't think about that. That may help bring the blood pressure down. They still talk as if they installed something they can't remove.
I wonder what they would have done at the end of the 3yr agreement. I also wonder what I can do to be absolutely sure there is nothing hiding in the computers they had control of.

Thanks but, I remember doing all those steps on a problem I had last year. Her computer and me now could not handle that.
I am thinking of running the NETSTAT command you gave me and copying the file before and after bringing up FireFox /Yahoo.
Would this be helpful. I have a copy of FRST64.exe. I can also run SFC /Scannow to see if all is okay.

Thanks No I only mentioned I had it. I sure can't figure out what they say they did that can't be undone.
If they can't undo some mystical action now, how were they going to do it at the end of 3 years?
To many things don't compute.

I sure can't figure out what they say they did that can't be undone.
It's a scare tactic. Total BS. There is nothing you can install on a computer that "can't be undone". Even if they figured out how to "hide" a program, there are many ways to remove it even if you had to format and start over.

I just ran SFC /SCANNOW on my wife's computer with no problems. With Security Essentials and Malwarebytes running she should be safe.
I still wonder where and how her contacts list went.
Thanks and have a nice Sunday

This number above starting with an 850 exchange is a Mobility Wireless Cell Phone number. These phones are considered "burners". Meaning, they require no personal info to buy and activate. The user can remain completely anonymous and they are used for criminal activity.

WOW this gets better and better. Only because of your information and the fact the Credit Cards have been cleared. I am getting a new Mastercard. I don't know if I should request a new Visa. Are you catching up with all the Football action today?

I have Macrium. What is the best choice for creating a backup? Is the C:(SSD) drive sufficient or should I backup/clone D:(harddrive) also.
Will it compress so it would fit on a Flash Drive? I do have a F: partition on a separate Hard drive.

If the Visa number has ever been used on either computer then it might not be a bad idea to request a new one.

Macrium is what I use at home, Family, and at work for the last 15 years. It has never failed me.

I don't recommend a flash drive as I've had many go bad on me. No, any backup image should be kept on a separate drive from the drive being backed up.

I utilize one Full and 7 incrementals on my home computers and check the purge function to delete the files as it runs so as to not to fill the drive to capacity. I have my C:drive back up to an internal dedicated HDD.

Work Point of Sale Server is another setup entirely. I have 2 full backups and 30 incrementals of the C: drive in RAID 1, backing up to a dedicated internal drive. That backs up to another dedicated internal drive. That backs up to an offsite Network Attached Storage (NAS) located at my home nightly. The NAS at my home is also in RAID 1.
Tons of redundancy.

WOW. I am now just a lone user. Are you suggesting 1 full backup of C and then incremental updates?
I just installed the Free Version. It gives 2 options Clone or Image. I will assume which I choose will ask for the drive to be backed up and
where to put it.

You'll want to choose image. Yes, it will give you a choice of where to store the backup.

Hopefully, this will help. Differential and incremental disk images - KnowledgeBase v7.2 - Macrium Reflect Knowledgebase - KnowledgeBase v7.2 - Macrium Reflect Knowledgebase

Or this about midway down explains how to set the template choice for full and incremental. This Software Lets You Make a Windows Recovery Drive for Free

If you don't want to mess with it, you can just do a full once a week or however often you like. Keep in mind, how often you backup is relative to what you save when you need to restore. :-)
