[SOLVED] Migration of WIN 7 Pro to WIn 10 fails.

It seems that will require some work...

System Update Readiness Tool (SUR)
  • Download the System Update Readiness Tool (x64) and save it to some place, its a big download and eventually we need to run it several times, please keep the file
  • Run the tool. Its like an Update but it can take a long time to do the work. You will get an Installation Complete screen when it's done running
  • Please attach to your post the log from the following location: C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log
    Note:
If the file is too big please Zip it and upload the ZIP file to a service like Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive or upload to SendSpace and just provide the link for the file here.

Done! I've received the installation complete message.
The CheckSUR.log file is so tiny, that no webspace is required....
Have a look.

Ok, the failure was expected but I had to try ;)

The dropbox link worked ok, thanks.

I will post some work for you to do tomorrow.

Capture Process Monitor Trace
  • Download Process Monitor and save it to the Desktop
  • Run the update (kb4534310 ) until you get the prompt to confirm if you want to install the update. Don't accept the prompt yet.
  • Run Process Monitor from the Desktop. Leave this running while you perform the next steps
  • Return to the Update prompt and click Yes to start the installation of the update
  • Stop Process Monitor as soon as the update fails. You can simply do this by clicking the magnifying glass on the toolbar as shown below.
    iiTxmntz9hzmYzZrKwGk9tmnhW5kF0.png
  • Select the File menu... Save... and save the file to your Desktop. This is likely the default location. The name (unless changed) will be LogFile.PML. This is fine.
  • Zip up and attach the LogFile.PML file as well as your CBS.log.
Note: To produce a smaller log is recommended to close all other programs that are not needed before starting the trace.

Hi, still or again online? ;-)
It's done, but it takes time to upload to dropbox. Slow upload...they are currently digging for a Fibre access.

Hi,

Most of the files we request will be much smaller if you compress them.

When the Procmon was running did you install the update manually or via Windows Update?

Export the CBS folder
  1. Click the Start button
    Win7Orb.gif
    then click Computer.
  2. Double-click on the C: drive, under the Hard Disk Drives category, and then scroll down to, and double click on the Windows folder.
  3. Find and double click on the Logs folder.
  4. Right-click on the CBS folder, and select Copy.
  5. Go back to your Desktop, right-click on it, and select Paste. You should now see a copy of the CBS folder appear on your Desktop called CBS.
  6. Right-click on this new folder, and navigate through Send to, and select Compressed (zipped) folder.
  7. A new file, also called CBS (CBS.zip), but this time with a different icon, will be created.
  8. Attach this to your next post please, if the file is too big please upload the file to a service like Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive or upload to SendSpace and just provide the link for the file here.

Hi, I just realized, that I've forgotten to add the CBS File..:-( I was in a hurry. Sorry.
Will be back in a couple of hours.

Hi,

Please follow my instructions I need the complete CBS folder.

Hi SleepyDude,

Sorry that the file I sent is not covering your needs.
I've used for kb4534310 a download from Microsoft update catalog.

Please check the file under CBS.zip

if it is suitable. If not, I will do it again.

Sorry didn't work because the procmon log didn't catch the moment when the error was registered on the CBS.log!

Please try again, this time open the Windows Update applet from the Control Panel and select only the kb4534310 to install, run procmon and start login then immediately click on the button to install the update.
Stop login when the installation of the update fails with error.

Make sure you compress the new Procmon log file before uploading.

Immediately after this collect only the CBS.log it should contain information about the installation process.

Hi

I am still alive, but it seems this system wants to kill me....
Was trying to capture the requested log as you requested.
Started the update from the windows update applet.
Displaying Creation of installation
After 5 Minutes creating recovery point...
After another 10 Minutes Still the same...
Bio break for a couple of minutes....come back update KB4534310 ist installed.
Since I was waiting for the installation prompt, of course without having the monitor activated.
Anyway it's now listed as installed.
When I go now back into the installation applet, there are again 2 updates pending.
KB4534310 and 4535102.
See the allached screenshots.

Hi,

Using the Windows Update applet from Control Panel check only the KB4534310 update let WU try to install it to see what happens if it give you some error please post it and collect the CBS.log.

If the result is positive force a search for new updates to see if only the kb4535102 remains on the list.
