Yes, it will be included.
But it's better to have a copy of the system when it's working, even with a "glitch", than not having it at all...
The next step after you have the system backup, and you know how to restore it (using your USB stick and the restore function of aomei), is to follow the steps in 50th post (tweaking.com application).

It should be the same, i.e. it should work in both cases.
By the way, the more secure (and maybe the fastest, try to measure the time in both cases) procedure should be the one from the USB stick.

tweaking windows repair, item 19 only, safe mode, twice.
after that, trying to create RP results in catastrophic error message.

Ok. In tweaking.com there is a beta repair section aimed to repair system restore: it is in the bottom-right corner of the repair section of tweaking.com:

Start windows in safe mode, try that fix. Do it twice.
Then start windows in normal mode and try to create a new system restore point.

my version seems to be different.
I do not see this option in repair section lower right corner.

then again, my notebook screen is too small to see the entire program window.
(the bottom part is cut off even when I move the window as high as it will go on this screen)
and I am not successful trying to re-size this window.

even in safe mode where I can see the entire windows repair application window I do not detect any reference to beta repairs in the lower right corner of repair tab -- or anywhere else, for that matter. 3.9.12 is the version I use.

Right-click repair_windows.exe, click properties, click the compatibility tab, tick (=put the checkmark in the checkbox) disable display scaling on high dpi settings, click ok, then open the program and check if you can see that option.

The beta repair should be in repairs - open repairs - bottom-right corner: it should be to the right side of cpu usage.

Ok, I ticked that but it seems to make no difference.
I do not have the portable version, I think. At least it doesn't say anything to that effect ! is that maybe the reason I do not see this?
should I get the portable version instead?

That's strange: it should appear in windows vista and it shouldn't appear in win10 (because that fix is not supported yet).
Well, forget it and try option 27 (set windows services to default startup).

Did you use some special programs to stop windows services and other processes? (i.e., what programs did you use?)

yes, you remember correctly.
but I don't remember using any programs for that purpose. at one point I think I ran the tweaking.com tweaker ( that was after the RP issue had started ). other than that I only installed RAMbooster and added RAM

at one point I had tried disabling a number of services manually which I thought I didn't need but that caused issues, so I turned them back on.

the RP issue started before I disabled services, I guess at about the time when windows updates stopped working. ( an issue that was fixed for a while and then surfaced again ).

Try these steps:

1. Read (and apply) step 1 of tweaking.com windows repair
2. Reboot to safe mode: log on with an administrator account
3. Open tweaking.com windows repair (repair_windows.exe), repairs, windows repairs
4. Tick only the following tweaking.com repairs:
   • 01 - Reset Registry Permissions
   • 02 - Reset File Permissions
   • 03 - Reset Service Permissions
   • 04 - Register System Files
   • 05 - Repair WMI
   • 06 - Repair Windows Firewall
   • 10 - Remove Policies Set By Infection
   • 14 - Remove Temp Files
   • 15 - Repair Proxy Settings
   • 17 - Repair Windows Updates
   • 19 - volume shadow copy service
   • 21 - Repair MSI (Windows Installer)
   • 26 - important windows services
   • 27 - windows services default startup
5. Wait till it finishes (it could last easily some half hours)
6. Reboot to safe mode: log on with an administrator account
7. Repeat (points 3, 4, 5, 6)
8. Reboot to normal mode and verify system restore

strange. in the midst of running this repair job I just noticed now I can see that button for beta repair...right along with cpu etc!

p.s.: what I mentioned above refers to the repairs running in safe mode. back in normal mode I still cannot see the beta repair button.

completed repairs as directed, twice, in safe mode.
result trying to create RP: catastrophic failure error, same as before.

as mentioned, I am unable to resize the windows repair window, although it has that little triangle in the lower right corner. when I click that triangle I can move dotted lines as if resizing the window. the moment I let the triangle go, the lines snap back to the same size as before, as per the earlier screenshot. I suspect because of this issue I cannot see beta button nor cpu indicator etc in normal mode.
