I need help with this update problem.
https://www.sysnative.com/forums/windows-update/21679-new-windows-7-install-wont-update.html

I followed the guide suggested by another member. I didn’t think I had a high CPU usage so I skipped step 1. Did step 2 & installed a new Windows Update Client, #KB3177467 is the newest one I found & it so happens it worked on a different HDD in the same PC. The guide said step 3, the Convenience Roll Up pkg, was optional & I skipped it. Plus I read there are some issues with it also that it doesn’t provide all the updates.

As mentioned in the thread this is a fresh Windows 7 install on a new SDD and I’d like to keep the drive as clean as possible, at least until I can make another image with all the updates. I did run the WindowsUpdateDiagnostic tool from an EHD and there were no errors.

Any additional help would be appreciated.
Thank you.

Hi Mike,
The convenience rollup is just a package of post SP1 updates, installing it will reduce the time to check for updates.
If you're comfortable waiting for Windows Update to do it's thing, turn off sleep and hibernation in power options, start the check for updates and wait. I've seen some machines take an entire weekend to complete the first check for updates so you may have to be *very* patient.
Subsequent checks for updates should be much quicker.

According to this there are several known issues.

Having to run a script and/or modify the registry seems like I'm asking for trouble. Or do these issues only happen in rare situations?

If I do run the convenience rollup will it still take a long time to complete the next normal "checking for updates"? Or will that be considered a subsequent update & be quicker?
