Problem with wifes notebook ;-)

Step 1 - Run Check Disk (CHKDSK).
  • Click the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  • When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator.
  • When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following command into it, press enter afterwards.
    Code:
    chkdsk
  • Wait for this to complete.

Step 2 - Download

ListChkdskResult.exe and save it on your desktop.
  • Rightclick ListChkdskResult.exe and select Run as administrator.
  • Notepad will open the file ListChkdskResult.txt on completion. (This logfile ListChkdskResult.txt is also saved on your desktop.)
  • Post the logfile ListChkdskResult.txt as attachment in your next reply.

This looks good, so we can rule out a possible drive problem.

Please run the System File Checker in an elevated command prompt, if it fails attach a new copy of the CBS log.
Code:
SFC /Scannow

Upload your COMPONENTS hive.
  • Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
  • Please copy this file to your desktop.
  • Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
  • Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To > Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
  • If the file is too large to upload here, upload the file to www.wetransfer.com and post the link in your next reply.

Please perform the following steps again, but copy SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip to your systemdrive C:\ and execute it from there.

Mmm, the CBS log is still reporting the same issues, what was the result of SFC /Scannow?

1 Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations
2 Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files and successfully repaired them
3 Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them
