[SOLVED] Problems with installing Windows 10

I've seen 3-4 threads here where people have the same issue as you, the Setup Host process stops working and crashes. No solution was found yet for this. Maybe, maybe there's something we can try.

    Code:
    FileScan::
    msvcrt.dll
  • Save any work you have open, and close every programs;
  • Drag the SFCFixScript.txt file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it;
    1p8eDnI.gif
  • SFCFix will launch, let it complete;
  • Once done, a file will appear on your Desktop, called SFCFix.txt;
  • Open the file, then copy and paste its content in your next reply;

Hope I did this right.

Uninstall a Windows Update - Command Prompt
Follow the instructions below to uninstall a Windows Update manually via the command prompt.
  • On Windows Vista & 7, click on the Windows Start Menu, then enter cmd in the search box, right-click on the cmd icon and select Run as Administrator
  • On Windows 8, drag your cursor in the bottom-left corner, and right-click on the metro menu preview, then select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • On Windows 8.1, right click on the Windows logo in the bottom-left corner and select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • Enter the command below (you can copy/paste it, to paste in the command prompt, right-click inside it and select Paste):
    Code:
    wusa /uninstall /KB:2654428
  • Let me know the outcome of the command: either it uninstall the update or either it says that the update isn't installed on the system;

It uninstalled (can I ask if this update was causing the problem or if it was the problem?)

Uninstalling this update will cause you to use a lower version of msvcrt.dll. Now, I would like you to attempt to upgrade to Windows 10 again, using the method where the Modern Host Setup would crash. Let me know if it still crashes and if it does, please copy/paste the Event Log error related to it.

No change.Here's the log error report:

Actually, I'm not an analyst, I too am having problems with win 10 but I am getting help from someone,perhaps you should repost and get help from someone with more experience, if I find a solution to my problems I will gladly pass it on to others.:thumbsup2:

Hi sorry I was referring to Aura, since google search found his post about msvcrt.dll, didnt mean to hijack your thread :)

Looks like it didn't work. Sadly we cannot use a lower version of msvcrt.dll, since you're using the lowest one possible (from Windows 7 RTM).

As for iSPY, I don't know what issue you have with msvcrt.dll, but to me it looks like you're already on Windows 10, while bobby is trying to upgrade to Windows 10 from Windows 7 but the msvcrt.dll file makes the Modern Host Setup application crash during the upgrade.

No problem iSPY. If you are having problems Aura is about as good as they get as far as helping figure things out,so in my opinion your in good hands,now back to me is there anyway we can make this setup host work? Also I'd like to run something by u Arua that I read somewhere about MS releasing some type of update next month that is suppose to make installing and activating win 10 a lot easier for win 7 & 8 users (especially ones that have been having issues like myself) Have u heard anything or read anything to this effect?

Greetings. and good news Aura, I now have win 10 running on this pc, here's what I did, go to ESD file(pc os C: in my case)>Windows>setup.exe(not setupprep) ok now in my case (before you actually run it) go to properties>compatibility(make sure this section is set to your system,in my case it needed to be set to win 7 it wasn't it was set to win vista.I changed to win 7 hit ok ran the file(setup.exe) as administrator and presto here I am yay! I hope this will help others with a similar issue as I was having.Also thanks for all your help and advice.Still have things to do (logon screen,etc.):dance:

This is a really weird solution, but I'll try it for other users that have the same issue as you, thanks for sharing it with us.

How did you find that solution by the way?

Didn't do anything special was just trying different ideas went into setup prep first checked compatibility noticed it had win vista so I changed it to 7 tried to launch nothing happened so I figured I'd try setup.exe, again checked compatibility noticed windows vista was selected so I changed to 7 launched it and here we are. I'll check back with u in a few days to see if it holds. :thumbsup2:

Let me know if this solution helps anyone else Thx

Hi I understand, but now I was facing the same issue as he, modern host setup crashed when it was checking stuff after it updated drivers etc.. I was trying to update from 10240 to leaked 10586 version and that installer stopped responding
