[SOLVED] random BSOD

Hi,

When did the BSOD occur, was it during Prime95? Also, unfortunately the *101 DPC won't be good as it'll need to be a kernel or higher to get any relevant info from.

Regards,

Patrick

Yes I am running prime95 when the bsod occurred. I am still running prime95 though and have not yet encountered WHEA crash. I do have some Page faults and NTFS file system crash though. :)

Just hoping to see at least one more 124 BSOD :')

The crash during P95 likely further signifies possible CPU issue, but I want to be extra sure.

Regards,

Patrick

Hello, sorry I could not update. I did not have WHEA error on prime95 running from night 'till morning. Then HP called and picked up my unit and said they were going to replace the entire system board. :D

That's what I like to hear! I would be interested to know if the are only replacing the board, but we'll see!

Let me know the outcome of the system and let me know its behavior after the board is replaced.

Regards,

Patrick

Hello, HP just updated me that they have already replaced the motherboard and the unit is for burn in test again. They will update me if they encounter any BSOD or if my HDD needs replacement. :)

Hi,

Good stuff! I appreciate the updates. Hopefully everything will be solved soon.

Regards,

Patrick

Hello Sir Patrick, Thank you for always checking on my updates and unit status. I really appreciate it. I will update as soon as I get my laptop back (which might take a while based on my previous experiences). :D

Hello, after a month I finally got my laptop back. According to them they replaced the whole motherboard except for the ram and hard drive. So far I'm not encountering any BSOD but not all of my drivers were installed and windows 8 is not yet fully up to date so I'm going to observe first what happens. :) Is there any tests I should be running?

Hi,

I hope aside from the computer all is well. Nope, no tests necessary, just use the laptop regularly for a few days. I'd say if you go at least THREE without crashing, install necessary drivers from manufacturer's website and also any IMPORTANT Windows Updates (no useless optional, etc... just the important security updates, etc).

Regards,

Patrick

Hello again Sir Patrick :) thanks for the advice. I will definitely follow it. Have a good day and thanks for the help! I will update if anything significant happens.

Hello, I would just like to update. So far so good, no BSOD. I haven't installed all the drivers from the manufacturer's website. And I can't set the windows update settings to download and install the important ones only so I just set it to download updates but let me choose to whether install them. :) I haven't used the laptop in heavy gaming yet but I will try later. I am contemplating as to whether we I should install the drivers as I saw a folder named SWsetup in my local drive C. This folder is actually the drivers folder when you install HP driver. Weird thing is, it has all the necessary drivers in it but when I look at HP support assistant and program and features in control panel they only show the two drivers I actually installed manually, HP coolsense, HP hard drive protect and video card drivers.

Hi,

First off, glad to hear. Let's do the following:

1.

I haven't installed all the drivers from the manufacturer's website.

Let's go ahead and do this now. HP ENVY Sleekbook 4-1055tx | HP® Support

^^ That's your laptop and you're using Windows 8, yes? If so, here are the drivers you should download:

- Audio
- Chipset - Only get the Chipset install utility, ignore the rest
- Graphics - Get both Intel and AMD
- Touchpad
- Network - Depends if you have Atheros or Qualcom. I'd recommend running HP's 'Scan Now' and seeing what it advises for Network.

That's it.

2.

For updates, select 'Check for updates but notify me whether to download & install'. After that, install all IMPORTANT (not Optional) updates.

Regards,

Patrick

Hello Sir Patrick! Yes that's my laptop and I'm running win8 pro. I checked the listed drivers and all of it are in the SWsetup folder in my local drive, which I guess means that they are already installed. Only the chipset is not seen in programs and features and HP assistant but it is in the SWsetup folder. I already set the windows update as you recommended. Thank you! :)

:thumbsup2:

Keep me updated within the next few days for a final update as it seems things are as they should be.

Regards,

Patrick

Hello, after over a week of observing, so far no BSOD. No drivers were updated since HP support assistant won't detect any outdated driver. Only important updates were installed from microsoft mostly security update for windows defender. :) I tried some heavy games and noticed my laptop kind of heats up fast so I mostly resort to low settings and will need to buy a new cooler if I were really to test out its performance. But overall, my laptop is good.

Hi,

Wonderful, very glad to hear. Absolutely sounds like it's solved to me. If and when you're comfortable that's the case, I'd go ahead and navigate to 'Thread Tools' at the top of the thread and select 'Mark this thread as solved'.

Regards,

Patrick
