[SOLVED] Server 2008 R2 Cant update IE 10

OK. There's a few more things we can try. Let's start with the following.

1. Save the attached file to your desktop.
2. Right-click on the file and select Extract All... to extract ReRegisterIE.bat
3. Right-click on ReRegisterIE.bat and select Run as Administrator.
4. Let it run through and answer OK as many times as needed.
5. See if there is any difference opening IE.

I still have several things we can try. There are two version of Internet Explorer on every 64-bit system. The 64-bit version and the 32-bit version. Can you browse to each of the paths below and open internet explorer to see if they both behave the same way? Don't use any shortcuts on the system, just browse directly to these paths. Thanks.

C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe
C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe

OK. Go to Add/Remove programs and then view the installed updates and uninstall "Internet Explorer 11" from this list. See if it uninstalls cleanly. You will likely be asked to reboot when this is complete.

You are going to love this. Both IE9 and 11 are listed in the list of updates installed. Should I try 9 first?

No. Please try 11 first. If 9 is still there then go ahead and try 9 afterwards. It may just remove the entry from add/remove programs.

Uninstalled 11 and I am back to a working IE 8. IE9 still shows as being an installed update.

It ran for a while and then posted an error "An error has occurred. Not all the updates were successfully uninstalled." It's still listed in the updates.

OK, we can manually remove that entry from the registry at some point. Please go ahead and install IE11 again and let me know the results.

I think the IE9 remnants are the issue.
Code:
Error CBS Failed. Attempted to uninstall a version of a non-driver component that is not installed, version: 0X900041fb04032, component: x86_microsoft-windows-ie-winsockautodialstub_31bf3856ad364e35_9.4.8112.16434_none_08a2a4f6781619fb, owner: Package_1_for_KB2559049~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~9.4.1.3.2559049-2_neutral_GDR [HRESULT = 0x80004005 - E_FAIL]

Can you do Solution#1 from the following article? Let me know the results (i.e. any errors, successfully uninstalled).
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2579295

Tried # 1 and it said the program wasn't for my computer. I tried solution 2 and it immediately gave a Window package Managher error: Operation Failed with 0x80070005 Access denied. Butmakecab.exe is running. Its going slow currently at 6.4%. If I close the error dialog the makecab starts over so have left it open.

Good. Let it finish completely. You may get Access Denied several more times but just keep going past them. Then let me know if IE9 is gone from Add/Remove programs.

The command finally finished after spanning several Cabinet Maker Windows but it remains as an item in the Installed Updates. Do I need to reboot after the run? It did not tell me to do so.

Thanks for the info. Please do the following. It's a fairly large fix so it may take a little longer to run than normal.

Step#1 - SFCFix Script
Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.
  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop. If you still have this on your desktop from downloading previously, you don't need to re-download.
  2. Download the file below, SFCScript.txt, and save this to your Desktop.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCScript.txt.
  5. Drag the file SFCScript.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please
