[SOLVED] Server 2008 R2 Cant update IE 10

Bummer. So close yet so far. OK at this point I only have two options left.

1. Attempt a repair install of the OS using the 2008 R2 media. We would install right over the top of it which should fix the issues and keep all the data intact.
2. Do a physical to virtual conversion on the machine and upload it to me. I'll restore in a VM, attempt to get it working and then provide you just the steps to fix it.

Let me know if you want to attempt any of these options and I'm really sorry so much of your time has been taken.

I appreciate all your TIME!!! This has been a real ball-buster for sure. Since I am 60 miles away from server lets try the VM approach. What's the best way to create the VHD.

I'd prefer a VMWare virtual machine so I would suggest doing the following. Obviously you have to make sure you have enough space to create it.

I have some good news and bad news.

The bad news is that I've spent countless hours trying to surgically fix this issue and failed. This is extremely difficult. There are over 3,400 registry keys that are deleted, over 12,500 keys that are added, nearly 600 folders added, 160 files deleted, over 4,100 files that are added, etc. Just for an IE install.

The good news is that I was successfully able to get IE11 installed and working by doing a repair/in-place upgrade install of the OS. I took a Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 Standard ISO and ran the install right over the top. Then I had to install IE9, then IE10 and then IE11 but ultimately it worked.

I'm going to try a few more things but it's highly unlikely that we'll be able to surgically fix this without a repair/in-place upgrade install. If you are willing to try this, just make sure you have a backup of the entire system in case something goes wrong. It worked without issue when I did it however.

I wanted to give you a final update. I worked on this again for many hours and unfortunately was unsuccessful. The only thing that worked was the repair install. I really apologize we couldn't do more but I did my best.

Yes it is. Just be sure to have a backup of the system before you do so. You can also practice on the VM that you created if you have the ability to do so. That way you know exactly what to expect.
