[SOLVED] SFC and DISM issues on Server 2019

This morning Updates showed an error - please retry. I did and it started installing updates - should only download and not install as we only have 15 mins once a month for install reboots

Mmmm - concerned that it installed without a prompt. With Server 2008 Patch Tuesday was all there was and everything ran smoothly - now they can throw more updates the week after and we need to hold them over until the following month and install everything on the Saturday after Patch Tuesday. If it's going to override our settings and start installing downloads that could be a problem.

Since Server 2016 we have disabled UpdateOrchestrator Reboot (and renamed a blank directory as the file to stop MS recreating it), but it still makes me nervous when I see 'We'll restart your device outside of active hours!'

Also - looking at that indicates it will only install .NET updates this time around?

Normally I would see this (with Server 2016 and Server 2019) - that gives us the option to backup first then install (in case the update causes BSOD), or just leave if they throw out updates requiring a reboot after Patch Tuesday until the following month.

Do you ever sleep?

Clicking 'Restart Now' just produces this permissions error

They are different errors to permission issues, but I will try again on Christmas day when our customers will be hitting the turkey and the booze (although there is always one that wants to scream)

Will also try via BMC as once RDC disconnects there is no indication what is happening and that makes me more nervous than a field full of sheep with a wolf appointed as shepherd.

This is not necessarily a permissions error. It generally is, but it does not have to be. I've had this happen with Hyper-V being unable to complete its config.

Since the last installed cumulative updates were dated February this could well be the issue - will try Christmas day, and with some luck and a good wind will get some Christmas lunch as well. :-)

Network traffic was light on Sunday so I rebooted and everything appeared OK - I had assumed that the December updates had been installed, but nope it was the Feb ones again.

Looks like it is now trying to install updates automatically, set to download only notwithstanding, and has hit the damaged files issue again
