[SOLVED] spot's MGADiag report (and grovelling plea for HALP!!)

Still getting the error.

Evidently I've given you some faulty information earlier & I sincerely apologize - we had bought the desktop & a laptop at about the same time, and I found out tonigh that the desktop actually came with Windows 7 Home Premium, and that I have the original installation disc. The laptop was the one that came with XP & was upgraded. VERY sorry about that. IDK if this will make much of a difference, but thought you should know just in case. I don't have anywhere to back up the contents of of the desktop to do a full reinstallation of Windows 7 but I guess if that becomes necessary at least I have the disc to do it with (hopefully). I'm slightly concerned that the disc itself states "intended for distribution with a new PC.... for product support contact the manufacturer of your PC" instead of offering support direct from Microsoft. But let's cross that bridge when (hopefully only IF) we come to it.

Let me know what's next... and THANK YOU!!!

That makes more sense. I just couldn't see how it was possible that this machine originally came with Windows XP (likely 32-bit) and was upgraded to Windows 7 (64-bit). Does your DVD says Windows 7 Home Premium x64 With SP1 or is it without?

My external drive took a lightning strike last week & I haven't gotten another yet, so I need to see if my most important stuff will fit on a thumb drive. Will be a minute, but I'll let you know what's up ASAP.

After reading the instructions I have some concerns before I run this.
1) It says to download any network adapter drivers for your system. I couldn't locate any for the motherboard for this build. Will this be a problem?
2) "
Gather your license keys for software and for Windows to allow easy use in re-installing or activating Windows and/or programs on your system". In the process of trying to get this issue resolved with Microsoft they issued a new product key, which is not the same as the one on the DVD box for my OEM installation disc. Problem?

My concern is that, if there is a problem, I don't want anything I do to cripple what I already have. My assumption is that it will either work, or tell me it won't, but that's not generally the way my luck runs LOL. Could you advise before I start? Thank you for the extra hand-holding :)

Always better to ask. Let's answer your questions in turn.

Download the drivers from the following link and place them on your desktop. After the repair is complete, if you don't have internet access then this will have to be installed to resolve.
NVIDIA DRIVERS 15.49WHQL

No this will not be a problem. As long as you have the retail key handy that you got from Microsoft we can always re-enter it if need be. This may involve calling an activation line but won't be a problem.

Thanks for the driver link... I was totally in the wrong place o.0

I have the retail key and a pic of the properties screen with the Product ID, as well as the original installation disc so.... off I go :) Will let you know how it goes.

Well.... here's the scoop. Went thru the uninstall instructions for Windows 7 w/S1 and the system said that KB976932 was not installed. So I reinstalled via the installation disc. After adding my retail product key in two places it indicated that Windows was activated, but also popped this possible counterfeit warning at the same time

Any reason you can think of that I'd be getting this error when Windows was reinstalled via the OEM disc?

I closed the error & the activation boxes and got the following, which I allowed to run:

Not sure what this is, or if it will be a problem (or is an indicator of another issue...?)

The properties window indicates that Windows is active. Doesn't look like I lost any data ( ) or installed programs and, of course, settings like appearance were lost but I expected that. Turns out I did not have to reinstall any drivers (at least that I'm aware of yet - the internet connection was never lost and is running fine now).

So I guess we wait and see if the error comes up again. Let me know if you have any suggestions based on the above that we can try to get ahead of this morning. Tonight starts my *work week*, so I'll be limited on time til Monday morning. THANKS, AGAIN, FOR YOUR HELP & GINORMOUS PATIENCE!!! :D

No.

That's common during a repair and not an issue.

OK, let's see how it goes. There are probably a ton of Windows Updates that need to be re-installed since the repair. So when time permits, please check for windows updates and let them install and continue to do so until there are no more.

Thanks.

Well.... so far, so good :D 229 updates, there was one that failed, resulting in Code 9C59 but I didn't notice it until the update completion window was leaving the screen as I restarted to install all the updates. So far, though, no nastygrams or other errors. SecureIT is being reinstalled right now. We've got bad weather coming, so I'm going to shut down & unplug for a while, but I'll definitely keep you posted.

Fingers are tightly crossed!!:thumbsup2:

GOOD NEWS!!! Haven't seen the activation error since Friday morning!! Was able to successfully open all my documents in both MS Word & Excel. I do believe we can mark this bad boy SOLVED!!

I do have one last question - you indicated that we have Office 2007 Enterprise. If we upgrade this desktop to Windows 10, will that be affected in any way? It didn't seem to be hampered by the Windows 7 reinstall, but if upgrading to Win 10 will cause me to lose functionality there then we'll be sticking with Win 7 til the computer dies LOL.

Thank you again for the HUGE amount of help you have been! You've been patient, knowledgeable and VERY tenacious, and I can't tell you how much I appreciate your help. You ROCKED THIS OUT, BrianDrab!!
