Took for ever to update Wins 7... also System Restore not working...

Even though these files are samples, they are marked as system files by Windows, and therefore, if they are missing, damaged, corrupt or else, Windows assume that it isn't fully healthy when it runs checks on its components. Windows Update is probably one of the most sensible aspect of Windows, and if the system isn't 100% clean, it might not function properly, hence why we have to replace them.

I don't understand why the FRST fix isn't working. I'll ask my colleagues something and I'll get back to you about it.

Thanks for the explanation. The files are considered part of the Wins OS and like you mention, if they are corrupt or missing then the OS will not function properly. That seems very logical to me. I'll be waiting for your reply and thanks for your service...

Hello Aura...

Good news. I have my Wins 7 sample pictures back. Yes, the pictures that disappeared are back. I looked up how to get them back and it's done so maybe your fix can work now. I'll be waiting for your response.

What do you mean by that? Where did you get them from?

What do you mean by that? Where did you get them from?

This is what I did. I opened a new "user account as administrator" and when I look in the Wins 7 sample photos file they were there. So I went to my usual user account and when I verified the sample photos they were as well. Then I just closed the newly open account and rebooted. When I opened my user account the sample files were still there. I don't know how it happened, all I know is that the files are back like they used too. I have received, about an hour ago, new Wins 7 updates and all went well and fast. 76 MB of updates took about 12 minutes from download to installation to reboot and no issues what so ever. This is where I got the instructions on how to get Wins sample photos back>>>
How to Reinstall Sample Pictures | eHow ....

What do you think??? I assume that all is good now.

Looks like it. Can you run SFC and then upload the CBS.log for me so I can check it?

I thought we had run SFC before. Here:

System File Checker (SFC)
Follow the instructions below to run a SFC scan on your system and to provide the CBS log in your next reply;
  • On Windows Vista & 7, click on the Windows Start Menu, then enter cmd in the search box, right-click on the cmd icon and select
    Spcusrh.png
    Run as Administrator
  • On Windows 8, drag your cursor in the bottom-left corner, and right-click on the metro menu preview, then select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • On Windows 8.1 and Windows 10, right click on the Windows logo in the bottom-left corner and select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • Enter the command below and press on Enter;
    Code:
    sfc /scannow
    Note: There's a space between "sfc" and "/scannow";
  • Once the scan is complete, enter the command below and press on Enter
    Code:
    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
  • A file called cbs.txt will have appeared on your Desktop. Upload the file on Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive and post the download URL for it here;
Note: Please note that the CBS.log is volatile, which means that if you don't upload it after the SFC scan is completed, it won't have the information from the scan anymore. So archive it and upload it as soon as you can.

No file on desktop so where can I find the file?

If you entered the command properly, a file should be on your desktop. If you want, open Windows Explorer, click on Desktop and look for it there.

Did you type the command manually, or copy/paste it?

Alright in that case, use this one:
Code:
copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\cbs.txt"
It should be copied in your userprofile (accessible by clicking the folder with your name on your desktop).

Not there either....... What should I do??? Checked and rechecked......

You can upload the CBS.log directly then.

C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log.

Upload it on a cloud service like Dropbox, OneDrive or Google Drive :)

This is the link to the Dropbox website. On Dropbox.com, right-click on the file you want to share and select Share. From there, copy the URL it gives you and post it here.
