[SOLVED] Unable to do windows update on Windows server 2016 with error 0x80246002

Rebooted and tried again. It is still in the same state as I sent in the previous chat. " Processing directive 1 of 1 (power copy::)

Almost one hour now.. but still same state.

Hmm, it seems the corrupted Servicing Stack cannot be replaced whis way. I would suggest to make a complete system image / snapshot of this server. And then I would try to replace the Servicing Stack folders from the SFCFix.zip file in post #118 manually from the recovery environment.

Great, then I would suggest to update again to see if we have more luck this time... 🤞

It did the same- uninstalled the update after the second reboot..

Hi,

Are you able to clone this server, so we can try to see if an in-place-upgrade will resolve this issue?

We tried that. It runs the setup .. copies files .. reboots and comes to the Windows repair screen.. Does not continue the setup.

Hmm, my first thought is an corrupted System Reserved Partition? is this a physical server or an VM?

Yes.. In fact, Citrix Tech support checked it and said that it is a windows issue. Microsoft guys are troubleshooting since last one month. No luck. In fact, we want to repair this image, it is some sort of a "Golden image
" to create machines for the Citrix PVS server.

It has lots of software and Licenses installed. That is the reason we are trying fix it.

There is some progress today. After updating with Service stack KB5034862, I was able to install the cumulative pack for Feb 2024. It worked through DISM command, not through settings-update. Wait for today's Microsoft update and see how it goes.

Okay, keep me posted. At least this explains the Servicing Stack was corrupted as I noticed before.

1. In post #87 we tried to install this SSU (KB5034862) but failed!
2. In post #118 we have replaced all the components of this SSU but with no luck!

So something must have changed in the meantime? For now, it is a mystery to me that KB5034767 is installed successfully without a rollback?!

This is an odd isse, but as you said we make some progress as it seems.

Thanks for all the help.
The issue is resolved now as I mentioned before. We were able to update normally ( Settings - update ) with the latest March Cumulative Patch.
