[SOLVED] Unable to do windows update on Windows server 2016 with error 0x80246002

Sorry I thought I'd asked for the latest CBS logs already, because they were missing in your lastest reply.

Thanks, I'll need to reload a VM to see if I can reproduce this issue. For now it's unclear which component is corrupted!

Hi,

Download and run SetupDiag from Microsoft
  • Download
    60e45c659164d-SetupDiag.png
    SetupDiag to your desktop.
  • Right-click on SetupDiag.exe and select Run as administrator.
  • When completed the following files are created: "Logs.zip, SetupDiag.exe.config and SetupDiagResults.log"
  • Attach SetupDiagResults.log and Logs.zip to your next reply.

Tried to run the setupdiag but not running. Tried to run from admin command prompt..
If I run without any command line options, it gives the command syntax to tell how to run.
Tried this.. and please see the output below.. Should I run with any specific command options?

C:\Users\admin-thoma363\Desktop>SetupDiag.exe /Output:C:\SetupDiag\Results.xml /Format:xml

Searching for setup logs...

C:\Users\admin-thoma363\Desktop>

Hmm, please provide the following files if exists.

C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources\Panther\setupact.log
C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources\Panther\setuperr.log

Panther folder exists.. but it says " the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable".

Open an elevated command prompt and run the following command. Attach Dirlist.txt to your next post.
Code:
dir /s /a C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources > "%userprofile%\Desktop\Dirlist.txt"

If it fails try the following command.
Code:
dir /s /a C:\$Windows.~BT > "%userprofile%\Desktop\Dirlist.txt"

  1. Open the start menu and type cleanmgr to start Disk Cleanup.
  2. Click Clean up system files
  3. Select Temporary files and Temporary Windows installation files only.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Let me know if the (hidden) folder C:\$WINDOWS.~BT is removed from the systemdrive.

Hi,

Let's try to remove this folder using FRST.

Start the
