[SOLVED] Unrepeatable BSOD, fixed few problems I think, more inside - Windows 8.1 x64

Just curious, what's your reasoning that it's so conclusively a hardware issue, specifically the motherboard?

If it was a driver/software issue, verifier would have told us so. Also, DirectX MMS causing data corruption enough to the point in which the OS needed to fail-fast and raise a security check failure is no good. Under normal circumstances I would have said GPU/RAM, but we've ruled out both.

Okay so Memory Express called me back. They ran a bunch of benchmarks on it, I'm not exactly sure what they did to be honest. They told me that they got a blue screen due to the video card, which was a 270x that I had in the computer. I don't believe it to be a video card issue because of the issues with the 7950 and the 560 TI as well, that work perfectly fine on my old computer. They next told me to test the ram slots individually with each ram stick I have. So 16 different tests to do. I have access to my girlfriend's RAM that I'm gonna try using first instead of doing the 16 tests on my own. Other than that I have no more information.

edit: oh I forgot they told me they put a 750 or 650 in there and ran into no errors. So unless all my gpus are borked only on this one computer I dunno.

Any suggestions aside from what they told me?

That still sounds like a motherboard, especially with the evidence provided by good ol' Patrick :)

So what should I do? How can I verify or get them to verify that it's the motherboard for them to replace it? Or should I quit with them and go to the manufacturer instead?

If you can give me an example of how to phase "It's the motherboard you dolts, replace it for me" nicely with some backup. That would be great.

I would go to the manufacturer as they should give you minimal problems, if any at all, as long as it's within warranty.

Yes as we've already tested the RAM and multiple GPUs, correct?

You mention you still get the issue with different GPUs which is a big indication to a faulty motherboard.

yes they/ree telling me that once they swapped gpu, they dont get error.

i shouldn't have to test each ram individually should i if it passed memtest so well?

Okay, I got them (the retailer Memory Express) to replace my motherboard with an identical model, even though I do not have a box for it. I'll update you when I get the thing back after a week or so if it works or not. I guess there's not much else to do but hope that this fixes it.

Couple more quick questions regarding the RAM. Is the fact that I ran 8 and 1/2 hours 10 passes no errors good enough to call them RAM okay? Also if there was a problem with the motherboard RAM slots, would I have stilled passed with no errors? I'm hoping that they won't be the underlying issue if I get the new motherboard and I'm still having issues.

Yes, the minimum is 8 passes to ensure a suitable possibility of functioning RAM.
Normally if the motherboard is faulty in the DIMM slots it would appear to return with errors no matter what ram you use but seen as the motherboard is a huge component containing all sorts of busses and connections anything can go wrong, one faulty motherboard will probably behave in a completely different way as a faulty PCI slot can cause different issues to faulty DIMM slots.

****. So I got the computer back with new motherboard. Everything was fine from 1 till 7:13 PM. Then I get a blue screen saying CRITICAL_STRUCTURE_CORRUPTION that I've never seen before. Dump file attached. What do I do?

Edit: I should mention I was optimistic when they said I shouldn't have to reinstall windows because it's the same motherboard. Should I do that now as well?

Although the hardware itself didn't change model-wise, and theoretically everything should work fine, you went through a lot of BSOD's and corruption could have occurred, etc. It's best to wipe it and give it a fresh start on the new hardware.

If we have problems again though on the new install with the new board, we have some fish to fry.

Patrick
