Vista Hardware Driver Removal

Hi NoelDP

Have not heard from you in a while. Just wondering if you are still assisting with this or thrown the towel in.

.... sorry - it's been a busy week (fighting a Cryptolocker infection :( on a friend's PC ) and I'm still playing catchup...
back tomorrow, with luck!

Hi NoelDP

No worries was just curious what was happening. I can still do my work on laptop so no worries but would like to get the LAN Adapter operational as require a faster internet connection.

You still around? - sorry about that!
Please post a new SFC scan, and windowsupdate log if you're still looking for a solution.

Hi NoelDP

Yes still around have not fallen of the plant as yet. Will get scan to you inaround 30 mins.

Some interesting errors in the WU log :)
Code:
2014-01-25 16:40:40:678 1512 c9c DnldMgr Error 0x80072efe occurred while downloading update; notifying dependent calls.
This I think is due to server regulation rather than any software problem.

You receive a "0x80246002" error code when you use the Windows Update or Microsoft Update Web sites to install updates applies here, as does https://support.microsoft.com/kb/900936

Let's see if we can do both in one fell swoop :)

Open an Elevated Command Prompt, and run the following commands...

netsh winhttp reset proxy
net stop wuauserv
if exist Download.old del Download.old

(answer Y to the prompt if you get one - then follow with these commands)

c
d %systemroot%\SoftwareDistribution
ren Download Download.old
net start wuauserv

wait 10 minutes, then reboot and do a new Check for Updates and download/install only the oldest available update.

Hi NoelDP

The only update that was available besides a Office Security update was a Malicious Software Removal Update which I downloaded and installed. However this was a January Update nothing old.

That at least means that Windows Update is still functioning properly - including the TrustedInstaller service.

I've uploaded a new SFCFix file - please run that in the same way as earlier, and then run another CheckSUR and we'll see if maybe I've got it right this time!

I'm going to ask Tom to come back and try and beat some knowledge into my thick skull, so feel free to wait until I come back battered and bleeding with a full solution!

Fir the record, I'm now trying to fix the following errors...

So far so good - please post a new CheckSUR report and we'll see if it did the trick :)

NoelDP

Quick question should I have rebooted after running the SCFFix file before running the CheckSUR and installing the upgrades there.

It doesn't make any difference in this case, I don't think - the fix didn't work anyhow. :(

Best to wait until Tom gets back before I make a serious mistake! :)

It turns out that not only was there a bug (or three) in my script, there is also a bug in the actual fix tool as well.

We can either wait for Richard to fix the tool, or attempt a manual fix through regedit.
The safer (and less work) is to wait for the fix.
Up to you - if you want to go for the manual fix, I'll have to write a detailed set of instructions (at least for the first one), which aren't simple for this type of error.

Hi NoelDP

Not sure about your bugs, but a faulty tool is a problem. That is like a mechanic trying to remove a bolt with a broken spaner.

Up to you I am acustom to editing in the registry so no issue there.

Hi NoelDP

Just wondering if you are still around and any project of getting the tool fixed so as to fix my problem
