[SOLVED] [W8.1Upd3 x64] Error Installing Software that uses a Driver. FIX: WIN REFRESH

Re: [W8.1Upd3 x64] Error Installing Software that uses a Driver

CNBJ2530.DPB is still corrupt, but I don't think it's the problem that denies the installation of the NZXT CAM software.
(In my experience with windows 8/8.1, that file will continue to corrupt itself.)

I see. Any other idea what could be causing it not to install?

Re: [W8.1Upd3 x64] Error Installing Software that uses a Driver

Did you disable any windows service?
Did you use any "optimization program" (such as piriform ccleaner, wisecleaner wise care 365, kerish doctor, ashampoo winoptimizer, regseeker, and so forth)?

Launch msconfig and show us the general tab, i.e. the first window that appears (or tell us what option is enabled in that window).

Re: [W8.1Upd3 x64] Error Installing Software that uses a Driver

I've used ccleaner in the past. and it's on selective startup, shall I try normal and reboot?

Re: [W8.1Upd3 x64] Error Installing Software that uses a Driver

ummm. So I've made sure it's applied and everything it prompts a system reboot, do it no problem. come back to check it has booted in normal mode and it's still on the option of selective. either way tried installing again same error.

There could be some disabled services...
Can't you remember if you disabled some of them on purpose?

Open an elevated command prompt and then run these commands:
powershell
Get-Service | sort-object Starttype, displayname | format-table -property displayname, name, StartType, status -autosize | out-file $env:USERPROFILE\desktop\ServicesList.txt -width 200
You should find ServicesList.txt on your desktop: copy its content here between [NO-PARSE]

Also I have no memory of purposely disabling some.

Honestly, I feel my eyes crossed  when I try to check each one of your services.

I'd appreciate if someone with windows 8.1 would jump in and will compare its services with yours.

Open ccleaner, tools, startup, and see if there are disabled entries.
Open windows task manager, start-up tab, check if there are disabled entries.
If you find something disabled, try to enable it and see if msconfig in the general tab shows "normal boot".

Otherwise, if you didn't already have them, create a system image, a new windows restore point and create a copy of your important files on another disk.
The following operations shouldn't be so risky, but I think it's better to have those "parachutes". Do you agree?
Then:

  • download tweaking.com - windows repair portable (click) (current version 4.0.10)
  • unzip it
  • click repair_windows.exe
  • click reboot to safe mode
  • when in safe mode, re-open the program
  • click repair - main tab
  • click open repairs
  • untick the first checkbox (all repairs)
  • tick only the 26th checkbox (set windows services to default startup)
  • finally click start repairs and wait till it finishes

Did all steps as follows ran the exe. booted as normal, still does not work :thud:

Re: [W8.1Upd3 x64] Error Installing Software that uses a Driver

Let's try this, create a system restore point, then relaunch Windows Repair Portable, make sure you let it do a registry backup and tick boxes 1, 2, and 3. Hit start repairs. After that, reboot if asked to. Then try installing the software.

Re: [W8.1Upd3 x64] Error Installing Software that uses a Driver

So I tried your step softwaremaniac, the problem still is here, and yes I can install other things, i just tested trying to install teamviewer and it worked no issues at all. I'm pretty sure its only effecting things that may need to create a driver? (could be wrong)
