[SOLVED] [W8.1Upd3 x64] Error Installing Software that uses a Driver. FIX: WIN REFRESH

Re: [W8.1Upd3 x64] Error Installing Software that uses a Driver

I seriously doubt that this will help, but let's do it.

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put

tags around the log to break up the text.

SFC Scan

  1. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    sfc /scannow

Wait for this to finish before you continue

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt

  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.

Problem still persists however :banghead:

Re: [W8.1Upd3 x64] Error Installing Software that uses a Driver

any idea to explain this at all then?

Re: Error Installing Software that uses a Driver

database: C\windows\installer\inprogressinstallinfo.ipi cannot open database file system error -2147286788.
I can't find that file in c:\windows\installer folder, therefore it is probably put there during the installation.
The complete error should be something like:

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Installer information (or another more informative string) (title)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Internal Error 2203. C:\Windows\Installer\inprogressinstallinfo.ipi, -2147287037 (body)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OK (button)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I found there could be two possible solution to this:
  1. Try a clean boot.
How to perform a clean boot (You can also check Microsoft support: How to perform a clean boot in Windows (click)):
    • Start, searchbox, type msconfig, press enter (on your keyboard)
    • In the General tab (default opened tab), click Selective startup and untick (deselect) Load startup items
    • Go to Msconfig Services tab, tick/select Hide all Microsoft services (checkbox at bottom), disable the remaining (NON-windows) services
    • Click ok, reboot
  2. Check owner and permissions of C:\Windows\Installer AND %localappdata%\temp (expanded: C:\Users\UserAccountFolder\AppData\Local\Temp - UserAccountFolder in most cases is equal to %username%, but it is not always so).
And modify them, if things are not like they should be. I.e.:
    • C:\windows\installer owner is Administrators.
      C:\windows\installer permissions are:
      system (full access)
      everyone (Read & execute)
      administrators (full access)
    • %localappdata%\temp owner is the current user.
      %localappdata%\temp permissions are:
      system (full access)
      administrators (full access)
      current user (full access)

(Owner and permissions checked on windows 10 home x64, v1709 b16299)

Re: [W8.1Upd3 x64] Error Installing Software that uses a Driver

Right, my fault on this one. Tried to do a clean boot and rushed it through twice think on second one i forgot to tick to hide the microsoft services. Now my pc boots into a black screen. Tried to use the system restore i made today however there isnt enough space on the drive. I can refresh the files tommorow when i could get my usb back with my W8 installation files on it. If possible is there a way to reactivate the msconfig files through command prompt since i can still access that.

Re: [W8.1Upd3 x64] Error Installing Software that uses a Driver

Safe mode boots as a black screen.

Re: [W8.1Upd3 x64] Error Installing Software that uses a Driver

Windows recovery comes up with the error saying there isnt enough storage to load it back. I installed this OS off a USB a while ago, my friend has it with all the files on. I can get access to it tommorow. Im guessing thats my best option

Re: [W8.1Upd3 x64] Error Installing Software that uses a Driver

I can "refresh the system" when i have the bootable files tommorow see if that helps. If not then i guess I have no choice than other to reset.
