[SOLVED] Win10 - refuses to update to 22H2

Just an update! I'm preparing an VM with W10 20H2 to upgrade to 22H2 with your "Migration" folder, it seems it contains some invalid data (0xd007000d) and the file AppManMigrationPlugin.dll file is missing. So it can take some time I get back to you with the next steps.

no problem! I appreciate your efforts! Just let me know when you need me!

you guys are AWSEOME!

The folder is succesfully removed, please attempt to update again this will recreate the migration folder during the update process.

ok, attempted the regular update. it seemed to take forever (maybe 6 hours) and failed, but very differently. the failure seemed to happen very early after the reboot and came up with a different error:

0x8007042b

I assume this was the complete error 0x8007042b 0x4001e (second_boot pre_oobe)?

Please post the following logs:
C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources\Panther\setupact.log
C:\$Windows.~BT\Sources\Panther\setuperr.log
C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\ <complete folder>

It seems the migration folder is not recreated as it should be, probably due to a problem with permissions issue as well.

Open an elevated command prompt and run the following command. Attach Dirlist.txt to your next post.
Code:
dir /s /a %systemroot%\System32\Migration > "%userprofile%\Desktop\Dirlist.txt"

As I expected, the migration folder has not been recreated.

Please extract the migration folder from (SFCFix.zip) in post #151 and copy this folder manually into C:\Windows\System32 and let me know the result.

Okay, let's check the HDD first to rule some things out.

Download
520c07ffc7e11-CrystalDiskInfo-Canned.png
Crystal DiskInfo and save it to your Desktop.
  • Run the installer to install the program.
  • When finished, open the installed program by double clicking on it.
    • Good - There are no problems found, the drive is working properly.
    • Caution - The drive have some problems. (which indicates a drive that you should most likely be thinking about backing up and replacing.)
    • Bad - This usually indicates a drive that’s dead or near death. (! - Back up all important data as soon as possible.)
  • Resize the window so that all information is visible.
  • Take a screenshot of what you see and post it in your next reply.

Please perform a new scan with FRST and provide both logs.

Start the
577bf0efb8088-FRST.png
Farbar Recovery Scan Tool again.
  • Note: Your antivirus program may report FRST incorrectly as an infection. If so, disable the real-time protection when downloading and running FRST.
  • Right-click to run the tool as administrator.
  • Note: Ensure that the Addition.txt check box is checked at the bottom of the form within the Optional Scan area.
  • Press the Scan button.
  • Please wait for the tool to finish. It will produce two logfiles called FRST.txt and Addition.txt in the same directory the tool is run from (which should be the desktop)
  • Post the logfiles FRST.txt and Addition.txt as attachment in your next reply.
