[Win7SP1] Update failure

Re: Windows 7 Update failure

Hi

Could you try installing KB3212646? If this update fails, attach the CBS log and the WU log immediately.

After attaching the logs, restart your computer and run SURT and attach its CheckSUR.log log

Re: Windows 7 Update failure

Thank you for the logs. We are again seeing these files shown in the SURT log again and again. At this point, I am going to try and rebuild this folder. This fix will copy the contents of the folder to a backup folder before deleting the main folder.

SFCFix Fix
This fix is very specific for siltyclaycorvair's computer. Trying this fix on your own computer might damage your computer. If you are after assistance, create a new thread, and you will be assisted shortly.

Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and move the executable on your Desktop.
Download the attached View attachment SFCFixScript.txt and move the archive to your Desktop
Note: Make sure that the file is named SFCFixScript.txt, do not rename it.
Save any work you have open, and close every programs
Drag the SFCFixScript.txt file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it

SFCFix will launch, let it complete
Once done, a file will appear on your Desktop, called SFCFix.txt
Open the file, then copy and paste its content in your next reply

Things went almost successfully. It backed up the folder but failed to delete it. This should take care of it:

Re: Windows 7 Update failure

Finally the folder is deleted :)

So, now could you run SURT again and post the CheckSUR.log? Now that it is deleted, lets see the results

Hello CKing,
Will do. In the meantime, I am still having trouble with transferring photo files from my android to my laptop. The Samsung driver is either missing or corrupt. I can get the driver reinstalled by going to Control Panel, devices, and troubleshoot my android when it is connected to my laptop. But I wonder if there could be some connection with this problem you are helping to fix with my windows updates.
Jeff
Have you tried updating the drivers?:

Go to Start > Device Manager

From there, try to find drivers with ADB in it. Once you have found it, right click on it > Update Driver Software
If it finds an update and it fails to install, let me know. If it doesn't, there might be other problems that we will look into :)

Re: Windows 7 Update failure

Thank you for the log. Let's work on reconstructing the files in the folder:

SFCFix Fix
This fix is very specific for siltyclaycorvair's computer. Trying this fix on your own computer might damage your computer. If you are after assistance, create a new thread, and you will be assisted shortly.

Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and move the executable on your Desktop.
Download the attached dView attachment SFCFix.zip and move the archive to your Desktop
Note: Make sure that the file is named SFCFix.zip, do not rename it.
Save any work you have open, and close every programs
Drag the SFCFix.zip file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it
mMabJGT.gif
SFCFix will launch, let it complete
Once done, a file will appear on your Desktop, called SFCFix.txt
Open the file, then copy and paste its content in your next reply

Once you have run the fix, could you run SURT again and post the CheckSUR.log?

Also, could you give me an update on the Android problem?

Re: Windows 7 Update failure

Hello CKing,
I hope all went well with your exams! When I was in my second year in college, slide rules were used by all of us engineering students. Regarding my android, here is what I did, with my android connected via USB:
start>device manager>modems>samsung mobile usb modem>driver>update driver>auto search on internet for update. I had to do the "auto search on internet for update" because no listing of drivers was available. It found a driver update and installed it. Photo transfer worked. The updated driver info is "date 8/24/16" and "driver version 2.12.4.0
After I do the SFCFix, SURT, and upload the CheckSUR.log instructions you gave me, I'll try the photo transfer again on my android and report the results.
Thank you,
Jeff

Re: Windows 7 Update failure

Okay! Thanks for the update!

I hope all went well with your exams! When I was in my second year in college, slide rules were used by all of us engineering students.
Thanks! I did extremely well for this semester and overall, things went well!

Re: Windows 7 Update failure

Thank you for the log. Could you check for updates again? This time, the updates should install

Also, connecting my android to my computer with the USB results in "Device not recognized"
This may be difficult since I don't own an android smartphone, but when you connect the android to your computer, do you see this screen?:
650x390xandroid-gingerbread-connect-storage-to-pc.png.pagespeed.gp+jp+jw+pj+js+rj+rp+rw+ri+cp+md.ic.z1P30FIxpC.png

If you don't, when you are setting up file transfer on the android, do you get this choice to choose between MTP or PTP?:

Re: Windows 7 Update failure

Hello CKing,
I get both on my android screen, but no android drive folder in windows explorer. I open Control Panel> Devices and Printers, and an android icon shows with a yellow warning triangular icon. I left click on it and get "device not recognized", I right click, click on troubleshoot, and I get the window (see attached screenshot). Click on "apply this fix" and it installs a driver, and windows explorer shows the android drive folder, and I can transfer photos by copy /paste. I can pull the USB cable out, and reinsert it and windows explorer shows the android drive folder again. Shut down the computer and start it up, I get both on my android screen, but no android drive folder in windows explorer.
I'll check for updates on my laptop and give you the results in my next post.
Thanks for your help,
Jeff

Re: Windows 7 Update failure

That's ... really strange. So, first off, about the update problem: So 9 updates installed, and they required a restart and upon restart, they failed after 97%?

As for android, after you restarted your computer, did you have to do the same fix now to enable drivers to work?

A lot of questions, but we will get to the solution :)
