[Win7SP1] Update failure

Re: Windows 7 Update failure

Hello CKing,
Yes, the restart was automatic, and the windows config failed at 97%.
Yes. USB connecting my android to my laptop just before writing this post, my android showed the screens in post #155, but my laptop showed no windows explorer recognition of the android. Going into Control Panel>Devices and Printers, the android icon was there with a warning triangle. Right clicked on it to open window and select troubleshoot, it installed a driver and enabled file transfer.
This Win7 update problem all started in July 2016 when I was unsuccessful in installing Win10, and reverted back to Win7. Other than these two items, the Win 10 and android items, I have no clue to help you guys. See my posts in previously referenced forums for explanation of my Win10 events.
Thank you,
Jeff

Re: Windows 7 Update failure

Hi

From the WU log, I am noticing some errors related to the WU agent:
Code:
2017-01-22	14:54:04:915 896	c9c	Agent	FATAL: fail to register class object 0x80004015
2017-01-22	14:54:04:915 896	c9c	Agent	FATAL: Client call recorder fails to init with error 0x80004015
2017-01-22	14:54:04:915 896	c9c	Agent * FATAL: Failed to initialize with error 0x80004015 from component Agent
2017-01-22	14:54:04:915 896	c9c	Service	FATAL: Failed to initialize WU client: 0x80004015

Could you install KB3177467 from here? Unlike the other updates, this one is a servicing stack update, which means it updates WU itself. This should update the WU agent

Re: Windows 7 Update failure

Thank you

Yes, close the troubleshooter and restart your computer. Once you are done that, could you test your android phone again? (It may need to install the driver one more time)

Do another check for updates and install them. If there are any errors, attach the C:\Windows\logs\CBS\CBS.log as well as C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log

Thanks

Re: Windows 7 Update failure

Hi

There are quite a few issues related to WU, so let's begin with a full repair:

Run Windows Repairs AIO

  1. Download Windows Repair (All-in-One) Portable to your desktop.
  2. Once the file is downloaded, right-click on the file on your desktop and choose Extract All...
    Extract.JPG
  3. Keep the defaults and click the Extract button.
  4. A folder named tweaking.com_windows_repair_aio will be extracted to the desktop. Once the extraction is complete the folder will open.
  5. Inside this folder, there is a folder named Tweaking.com - Windows Repair. Open this folder as well.
    Capture.JPG
  6. Double-click on Repair_Windows.exe to open. Note: Please make sure all of your programs are closed and anything you were working on is saved as we will be rebooting.
  7. When the program opens, click the Reboot to Safe Mode button at the bottom of the screen. Answer Yes to allow.
  8. Once rebooted into Safe Mode, open the program again. When the program opens, click the Repairs tab and click the Open Repairs button.
  9. A backup of your registry will be made. After a few moments you will have many options from which you can choose.
  10. Please click the Unselect All button and then click to enable only the following ones:

    17 - Repair Windows Updates
  11. Ensure the Restart check box is selected and click the Start Repairs button in the lower right of the screen. This may take some time to run so be patient.
    StartRepairsWithReboot.JPG
  12. Once the fixes are complete you will be prompted to restart your machine. Answer Yes.

Now, check for updates again and if they are available, install them. (Note that the first checking for updates will take a long time) (Also, this fix will also reset the update history)

Re: Windows 7 Update failure

Hi

Could you download and install KB3212646 from here? If it fails, attach the CBS and WindowsUpdate log

(Make sure to choose "January, 2017 Security Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB3212646)")

Thanks

This fix should be the first step towards fixing it:

SFCFix Fix
This fix is very specific for siltyclaycorvair's computer. Trying this fix on your own computer might damage your computer. If you are after assistance, create a new thread, and you will be assisted shortly.

Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and move the executable on your Desktop.
Download the attached View attachment SFCFixScript.txt and move the archive to your Desktop
Note: Make sure that the file is named SFCFixScript.txt, do not rename it.

Save any work you have open, and close every programs
Drag the SFCFixScript.txt file over the SFCFix.exe executable and release it

SFCFix will launch, let it complete
Once done, a file will appear on your Desktop, called SFCFix.txt
Open the file, then copy and paste its content in your next reply

Hi

Finally we have managed to find a core reason for the corruption issues:
Code:
Failed to identify winsxs copy for file C:\Windows\WinSxS\Manifests\amd64_microsoft-windows-data-pdf_31bf3856ad364e35_[B]10.0.10586.494[/B]_none_632971a4f2dcf50f.manifest. There may be file or hardlink damage.

Essentially, there are a mix of Windows 7 and Windows 10 components. This is extremely strange, with both the components side by side. This is an extremely tricky corruption that will likely be impossible to repair. (Don't worry about the file/hardlink damage. That is because we are having it examine the files in winsxs itself) At this point, I would suggest you to repair install Windows 7 instead. This should take care of it. If you need help with this, let me know :)

Hello CKing,
To be more clear and complete, is there a way to do a repair install without a Win7 disk? I have the product key number of the installed Win7. If available, where can I get a Win 7 disk?
Thanks for your help, Jeff
