[SOLVED] [Win8.1 x64] Win.Update spinning

both files are on the desktop. I rightclicked the frst file and run as admin. a window opened up.. I waited it said tool ready to use. I leftclicked the fixlist file and waited. Nothing happened. I restarted. Next?

That likely means that you don't have both FRST64.exe and fixlist.txt on the desktop. Maybe you made a shortcut? The files on your desktop should look like the following.

That's OK. The following should work. I've changed the instructions below so please follow them step-by-step.

Step#1 - DISM /RestoreHealth Scan
Warning:this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Right-click on the Start button and select Command Prompt (Admin)
  2. When command prompt opens, Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Right-click > Paste) the following command into it, then press Enter
    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  3. Let this complete or error out.

Step#2 - Retrieve Current CBS log
Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.
  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop. If you still have this on your desktop from downloading previously, you don't need to re-download.
  2. Download the file below, SFCScript.txt, and save this to your Desktop.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCScript.txt.
  5. Drag the file SFCScript.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, two files should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt and cbsnew.zip
  8. Please attach both of these to your next reply.

Please Note:: if the file is too big (over 7MB) to upload to your next post, please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.

That's better. Two things though. You didn't attach the cbsnew.zip as requested. It looks like you attached the cbsnew.log instead.

Also, what did it say in your command-prompt window before you performed Step#2.

I will attend to things tomorrow Am , about 8 hours from now. I don't remember what it said after step 1 for sure, but I believe it completed successfully. Do you want me to rerun?

Are you ok with cbsnew unzipped?

Let me know what to do next and I will do it in about 8-9 hours.

Please delete the cbsnew.zip and cbsnew.log files off of your desktop and then repeat the steps in Post#110. Make sure that Step#1 errors out with the 1812 error before moving on to Step#2.

step 1 errored out with the 1812 initialization error. I then ran step 2. the files are attached.
