Windows 7 CheckSUR unavailable manifest files

Uninstall Microsoft SQL Server 2005.

This failed; please see the following three screendumps:

1603217689018.png
1603217707992.png
The last window then disappears after about 1 second before I can get a chance to examine it. I don't know where to find the Setup log file referred to above.

Four of the updates, such as SQL Server 2005, Report Viewer 2008 and Visual Studio 2010, seem to refer to programs no longer installed.
When was that and what could have been happened that the uninstall was incomplete ?

Step 1:

  1. Download the attachment fixlist.txt and save it to your desktop.
  2. Right-click on FRST64.exe and select "Run as administrator".
  3. Press the Fix button.
  4. The tool will now process fixlist.txt.
  5. If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
  6. When finished, a log called Fixlog.txt will appear in the same directory the tool is run from.
  7. Post the logfile Fixlog.txt as attachment in your next reply.

Step 2:
Try to uninstall AVG 2013 and report the result.

I don't know whether the attempt to uninstall SQL Server 2005, Report Viewer 2008 and Visual Studio 2010 was incomplete or not, but I don't believe I have ever tried to uninstall them.
I attach the fixlog.txt which I hope will help.
I removed AVG a week ago. Two instances of AVG 2013 still show up in my program list, but the first one says:

1603227622556.png
and there is no Avgx64.msi anywhere in my C: directory.

The second one returns:
1603227671512.png
There are remnants of AVG left behind in Program Files (x86)/AVG, but no executables.

Download the AVG Remover.
Start the downloaded file.
Click Continue.
The program scans for installed AVG products. When completed the result will be displayed.
Select the product AVG 2013 and allow it to be removed.
Follow the instructions that appear. Restart the machine when asked to do so.

Step 1:
Uninstall following AVG products if still listed:
- Visual Studio 2010 x64 Redistributables
- Visual Studio 2012 x64 Redistributables
- Visual Studio 2012 x86 Redistributables

Visual Studio 2010 x64 Redistributables could not be removed. I get:

1603392957397.png
but the other two were removed without problem.
I attach the files you need.

I need to have a look at the SOFTWARE hive.

Retrieve Software Hive
1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the SOFTWARE file.
2. Please copy this file to your desktop.
Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, try Option#2 below.
3. Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named SOFTWARE.ZIP on your desktop.
4. Upload the zip file (SOFTWARE.zip) to your favourite file sharing website (it will be too big to upload here). Examples of services to upload to are FileDropper or One Drive or SendSpace.
5. Note: Send the downloadlink in a private message as the SOFTWARE hive contains sensitive information!

Option#2 (only if you are unable to follow the previous instructions)

  • Please download the Freeware RegBak from here: Acelogix Software - Download products
You will find it at the bottom of the page that the link brings you to.
  • Go ahead and install this program and accept all the defaults. After the last install screen the program should open.
  • Click the New Backup button. Accept the defaults and simply click Start.
  • When it says Finished successfully, click the Close button.
  • This will bring you back to the main screen of the program. You will see one entry in this list with the date that you did it. Right-click on this line-item and select Explore Backup...
  • This will bring you into the folder where the backup was made. You should see a Users folder and a Windows folder along with a couple other files. Double-click on the Windows folder to open it. Then open the System32 folder and then config folder. You should see around 6 files in here, one of which is named SOFTWARE.
  • Copy the SOFTWARE file to your Desktop. If the SOFTWARE file does not exist, please fetch it instead from C:\Windows\System32\config\SOFTWARE.
  • Now right-click on the SOFTWARE file that is on your desktop and select Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder.
  • Then please upload the zip file (SOFTWARE.zip) to your favourite file sharing website (it will be too big to upload here). Examples of services to upload to are FileDropper or One Drive or SendSpace.
  • Note: Send the downloadlink in a private message as the SOFTWARE hive contains sensitive information!
  • You can close any open windows you have as well as the RegBak program now.

I just reread you reply in message #124:
David Smythe said:
I don't know whether the attempt to uninstall SQL Server 2005, Report Viewer 2008 and Visual Studio 2010 was incomplete or not, but I don't believe I have ever tried to uninstall them.
Try to uninstall them one at a time and reboot when being asked. Start always with the oldest one.

I am pretty sure I never tried to uninstall those three programs, only to update them.
However, I have now tried to uninstall them.
SQL Server 2005 - remove te one instance component and workstation components - failed.
Report Viewer Redistributable 2008 - uninstall produces this message:
1603747382572.png
Visual Studio 2010 - the uninstall attempt results in this message:
1603747707984.png

So the uninstall attempt has failed for all three.

The screenshots show that the uninstaller points to drive d:
Is that drive connected ?

Sorry, I reproduced the same screenshot twice, showing the path not found on D:

About 6 months ago I cloned my system disk C: to an SSD and started using it, in part because the old drive was both old and getting full. But problems started to develop after a couple of months - certain programs wouldn't work or seemed to become corrupt. So I reverted to the old spinning disk which is the current drive C: - the one that we have been working with. I have always kept a system disk physically separate from a data disk D: (not just a partition). The SSD system disk is currently mounted as I:. There is also an expansion drive H: for local backups.

So to uninstall Report Viewer Redistributable 2008 I browsed to I: It found the installation there and has uninstalled it successfully. I must have only installed it while the SSD was my system disk. I have no idea why it should show up as an installed program after I reverted to the older system disk.

However, the uninstall attempt for Visual Studio 2010 results in this message:
1603822304151.png
[this is the image I should have posted last time]
I have searched for the msi file on the other drive I:, but to no avail, although there is a setup set of files under I:/ProgramData/MFAData. But the file sizes are all small (0 to 3 KB) suggesting that they are just empty placeholders; as if the program had already been uninstalled.

So I am only one step further forward, not three.

Sorry, do you mean Visual Studio 2010?
I succeeded in doing the update for Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1, but other update attempts, tried once again one at a time, have failed. There are 9 important ones pending.

Sorry about the delay in responding. I have reviewed the hundreds of screenshots I have taken, all collected into powerpoint files with added notes, of what I have been doing.
The VS2005 to which you refer is the Visual C++ 2005 SP1 update. I have twice apparently done this update successfully, but after a PC restart it re-appears like a zombie.
I am not sure how/whether to try to install VS 2005 (your message #137 above) because there is no trace of a previous installation on the PC, therefore I don't know where to put the new install. However, there is an MS Visual Studio 11.0 folder in the Program Files (x86) directory, with many VisualC++ snippets. Would that be VS2005? Here is a screenshot of currently installed programs mentioning 'Microsoft Visual':
1604354095944.png

Currently I have 9 updates left:
1604354134645.png
where I have highlighted the zombie update.
I await your further instructions/advice.
