That's unexpected. It doesn't appear that the manual uninstall of IE11 went through. Please do the following.

Step#1 - Uninstall IE11 again
I know it's not really installed but please run the manual uninstall from the following link again.

Thanks for the info. Please do the following.

Step#1 - SFCFix Script
Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.
  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop. If you still have this on your desktop from downloading previously, you don't need to re-download.
  2. Download the file below, SFCScript.txt, and save this to your Desktop.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCScript.txt.
  5. Drag the file SFCScript.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please

Step#2 - SFC Scan
  1. Click on the Start
    Start%20Orb.jpg
button and in the search box, type Command Prompt

    sfc /scannow

Wait for this to finish before you continue

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt
  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.

OK, now for the IE11 again but I want to capture a trace while we do it.

Step#1 - Capture Process Monitor Trace
1. Download and run Process Monitor. Leave this running while you perform the next steps.
2. Go ahead and attempt to install IE11 from the downloaded version just like you have in the past.
3. Stop Process Monitor as soon as the install fails. You can simply do this by clicking the magnifying glass on the toolbar as shown below.

4. Select the File menu...Save... and save the file to your desktop. This is likely the default location. The name (unless changed) will be LogFile.PML. This is fine.
5. Zip up and attach the LogFile.PML file as well as your CBS.log.

I see no errors at all in your logs which is odd. I assume when you open IE it doesn't open correct?

Also, if you navigate to the following file again and right-click on it and select properties and go to the Details tab, does it show version 11?

c:\windows\system32\ieframe.dll

Since your intention is to update to Windows 10, I wonder if we try that if it will magically fix your IE issues. Or will it say it can't be installed because you don't have IE11?

When were you planning on trying to go to Windows 10? I just downloaded it and installed it to all my machines instead of waiting for the notification to upgrade.
Windows 10

If you don't want to try that then we can go a different direction. Just let me know. Thanks.

I don't want to upgrade to Winows 10 until I hear it is fine. I upgraded my laptop to windows 8 as soon as it came out - big mistake.
If you have had enough of trying to sort this I'm happy to just leave it.

I don't blame you at all. How far back do your System Restore points go? If you don't know how to check, let me know and I'll provide instructions.
